Without a doubt, the best way to grow your collection of Pokemon TCG cards is to pick up a Booster Box or two. These collections are pure packs, no accessories or fancy boxes to get in the way of your card hunting.

Art? Yes. Investment? Definitely.
PostsThat said, Booster Boxes aren’t cheap, especially as the craze around the trading card game continues to grow. If you’re looking to jump into ripping packs or want to sit on a few boxes for a bit and try to offload them later, these are the cheapest Pokemon TCG boxes around.

10 Paldea Evolved
$230.65
An all-around good set for anyone looking to pick up some Pokemon cards, Paldea Evolved is a collector’s dream set, with all sorts of goodies to open up, both in terms of value and in collectability.
There are quite a few cards above the $20 threshold across a few different rarities, and Paldea Evolved has some neat Trainer cards with Iono and Grusha, which fans will enjoy. There is a high density of collectible cards in the set, with:
- 36 Illustration Rares
- 18 Ultra Rare Pokemon ex
- 8 Ultra Rare Supporter
- 15 Special Illustration rare cards
- 9 Hyper Rare cards
9 Journey Together
$223.25
A very popular set that brought back an even more popular mechanic, Journey Together, is the ninth main expansion in the Scarlet & Violet era and has a throwback more than 20 years in the making.
Journey Together reintroduces the Trainer’s Pokemon mechanic, letting you play with a collect a small group of popular trainers’ Pokemon. You can get N’s Zoroark ex, Iono’s Bellibolt ex, and Lillie’s Clefairy ex, just to name a few. Be aware that there are two types of Journey Together Booster Boxes, one that comes with a Box Topper of N’s Reshiram illustration rare card, and the basic one listed here.
8 Twilight Masquerade
$218.98
A bit of a curious case when it comes to this set’s price, the Twilight Masquerade set runs for around $220 per box, which is high but not exorbitant by any means. Singles in the set run a bit higher than some other sets that we’ll get to later on this list, with one fascinating outlier, Greninja ex.

Dark, sneaky, and dangerously strong!
PostsThe Special Illustration Rare version has a Market Value of $358, leagues above the next most valuable card of the Special Illustration Rare Perrin at around $105. Consensus seems to be that this is a case of market manipulation by either a dedicated buyer or some collective hoping to drive prices up.
7 Obsidian Flames
$208.22
One of the most popular sets to come from the Scarlet & Violet era is the Obsidian Flames expansion, one that had one of the most straightforward decks available. The set featured a Tera Charizard ex, who, thanks to the terastalization process, became a Darkness-type Pokemon and shifted around its weakness to Grass type.
The highlight card from the set was Pidgeot ex, a regular Pokemon that let you search your deck for one card each turn with its ability, an incredibly powerful effect at any point in the game. Many of the higher rarity cards from the set retained some value, making it a solid set to open outside of just Charizard ex.
6 Darkness Ablaze
$208.16
36 packs seem like plenty to open something cool out of a pack, and depending on what you value from your packs, it might be worth picking up a box or two from Darkness Ablaze. The thing is, there’s not much value to be found in these packs.
The main appeal of the set is that Charizard makes their first appearance as a V and VMAX Pokemon card here, and if you’re familiar with the Charizard tax, you know that it automatically spikes the price of the set and cards. However, Charizard comes in at around $40 for the Ultra Rare Charizard VMAX, and the next most valuable card in the set is the Secret Rare Salamence VMAX at around $10, which is a huge drop-off in price.
5 Stellar Crown
$199.46
A pretty popular set thanks to the unique twist on Tera Pokemon in this set, Stellar Crown brought with it Stellar-type Pokemon, who might not have a mechanically unique ability in the game, but have a few key changes to their cards to help identify them.

Our wallets cannot resist the sweetness of Lillie and her Pokemon in the Pokemon TCG.
PostsAll Stellar Pokemon have attacks with names based on gemstones and have powerful attacks that require three different types of Energy to use, and they typically go for a good price. Terapagos is at the center of this set, along with the Terastallization process as a whole. With many of the cards based on the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet expansion, Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, you’ll likely recognize a few familiar faces if you played the DLC.
4 Temporal Forces
$198.61
Featuring more Ancient and Future Pokemon, the Temporal Forces set is a solid one to pick up if you’re looking to open lots of packs but don’t want to break the bank while doing so. You can find Pokemon like Wugtrio, Raging Bolt, Litten, and Ghastly in this set, with ex versions of some, and special illustrations of more.
One of the coolest elements of the set is the return of the ACE SPEC cards. These are fancy Trainer cards with their own rarity and very distinct purple coloring that are so strong that they are restricted to just one copy of any ACE SPEC card in a deck.
3 Vivid Voltage
$198.06
Pokemon V come out swinging in the Vivid Voltage set, with cards like Pikachu V, Aegislash VMAX, and Coalossal VMAX being some solid picks to find among packs. Pikachu is an absolute delight in this set, especially the VMAX Pikachu, since it depicts him back in his chonky form from the game’s early days.
There are some particularly valuable Ultra Rare and Secret Rare Trainer cards from the set, with Bea, Leon, and Nessa being found across multiple rarities and printings. Vivid Voltage might have rotated out of standard a while back, but that doesn’t mean that there’s not plenty of value for collectors.
2 Paradox Rift
$192.43
Bringing with it two new types of Pokemon cards, the Paradox Rift set comes in at one of the cheaper Booster Boxes available. Ancient and Future Pokemon from the Scarlet and Violet video games appear in card form, with Pokemon like Roaring Moon and Iron Hands getting ex cards right out the gate.
Roaring Moon ex is particularly good from the set, capable of instantly Knocking Out an opponent’s Pokemon no matter what their HP is with a special Frenzied Gouging attack. Meanwhile, there are a lot of neat collector cards from Illustration Rares like Steelix and Altaria ex that fans will love.
1 Battle Styles
$181.54
Released back in March 2021, the Battle Styles set focuses on the Wushu Pokemon, Urshifu, and their two styles of combat with the Rapid Strike and Single Strike forms. The Battle Styles set brought quite a few Pokemon with these two traits, with Rapid Strike Pokemon focusing on crafty attacks, while Single Strike Pokemon dealing high amounts of damage.
The set wasn’t very popular when it was first released, leading to not many players picking up large amounts of product. While the set was solid from a competitive standpoint, it lacks a little from a collector's point of view, though the Tyranitar V alternate art card has topped over $100, which would be a great pull.
