Palworld has broken records in its launch, proving to the world that an open-world monster-taming game that looks and plays great and can rival the likes of Pokemon with a fraction of the resources. It combines several elements from various genres, and it's so fun for it.

Cute Pals make great allies.
PostsPals are your combat companions, but they're also your workers in a sense and will help you with survival tasks at your base camp. Each Pal can have up to four Passive Abilities that affect their usefulness in certain situations. These can range from abysmal to amazing, and here are the best of the best.
You can pass down Passive Abilities via breeding, so try and pick Pals with useful Passive Abilities.
10 Player Efficiency Skills
The Best Friendships Make You A Better Person
- Increase in player stats or survival efficiency.
Several Passive Abilities in Palworld actually buff the player instead of the Pal itself. There are two types of buffs the player can get from these, stats or task efficiency. Motivational Leader, for example, increases the player's Speed by 25 percent, whereas Vanguard gives a 10 percent increase to player attacks.
You can also get a sizable buff to your survival skills through your Pals' Passive Abilities. Logging Foreman and Mine Foreman give a 25 percent increase in Logging and Mining efficiency, respectively. While these sorts of Passive Abilities are not game-warping, they're without a doubt useful to have.
9 Workaholic
Not Recommended In Real Life
- 15 percent decrease in sanity depletion.
Pals at your base, keeping things running and efficient, are just as important as the Pals in your active party awaiting combat, if not more. Thus, it's very useful to have your worker Pals at maximum efficiency, and you have to keep them happy to achieve that
Your Pals will lose sanity as they work and might slack off, refuse to work, or just stress-eat at times. However, a Workaholic Pal will do so much less frequently. It works wonders if you have this Passive Ability on one of your best worker Pals, a Petallia or Annubis, perhaps.
8 Divine Dragon
Mythical Beasts With Mythical Power In Them
- 20 percent increase in Dragon Skills.
While the elements are more or less balanced, some still manage to outshine the others. Dragon, for example, is, without a doubt, one of the strongest elements in the game. With that being the case, buffing your Dragon Pals' attacks to incredible heights is obviously amazing.

From Foxparks to Lamball, here are the best early-game Pals in Palworld!
PostsSeveral Passive Abilities boost a certain aspect of an element. However, none of them give such a sizable buff, barring Lord of Lightning, and none are tied to as strong an element as Dragon. This is especially broken if you can get it on a powerful Dragon Pal such as Jetragon.
7 Swift
When You Really Have The Need For Speed
- 30 percent increase in movement speed.
Swift is one of the simplest Passive Skills in the whole game. It's a very straightforward statistical buff and may feel underwhelming at first glance. However, especially in the late game, when your primary mounts are set in stone more or less, Swift can be extremely beneficial.
Not only do you get to move around faster and explore more on your favorite mountable Pal, but you also get to run away from troublesome encounters and catch up to evasive Pals to capture them. The map is quite populous with Fast Travel locations, so you can easily cover the distance to one in a pinch. Already fast Pals like Jetragon and Direwolf especially love this Passive Skill.
6 Musclehead
If All You Have Is A Hammer, Everything Looks Like A Nail
- Attack +30 percent, work speed -50 percent.
Musclehead is the definition of fine tuning. While in general, you want your Pals to be good at every aspect and keep them versatile, sometimes you need a specific type of Pal for a situation. For Pals that are bad at working, and excel at fighting, Musclehead is a dream come true.
The downside is extremely negligible for these kinds of Pals. After all, who needs a killing machine that can launch missiles to be good at handiwork? The buff itself is great too, as even the best Passive Skills rarely buff a stat for more than 20 percent.
5 Rare & Lucky
The Shinies Of Palworld
- Work speed +15 percent, attack +15 percent.
Rare and Lucky are straight up the same, barring their name. This is one of the best overall buffs that a Pal can get. Unlike Musclehead, these Passive Skills empower both the combat and work capabilities of the Pal.
These Passive Skills fit Pals that you keep around you at all times the best. Pals like Anubis, Incineram, and Magnamut, which you use in battle but also want the help of, for certain tasks, are prime for being Lucky or Rare.
Every Lucky Pal has the Lucky Passive Skill. These are regular Pals but bigger and stronger. These can be considered the *shiny* Pals with statistical bonuses.
4 Burly Body
Best Offense Is A Good Defense Sometimes
- Defense +20 percent.
While blasting through enemies with immense power is always fun, sometimes you need something a bit sturdier. It can be the difference between victory and defeat to have a Pal simply sit there and sponge the bulk of the damage. This goes a long way, especially if your tank has an advantageous element.
RelatedPalworld: Best Pals For Gathering
These pals will cover all your gathering needs in Palworld.
PostsObviously, defensive element Pals such as Water and Ground benefit greatly from this Passive Ability. Just keep in mind that, unlike some other monster-taming games, your Pal will eventually get worn down, and stall alone will not win you the battle.
3 Ferocious
For The More Aggressive Players Out There
- Attack +20 percent.
On the flip side of Burly Body is Ferocious. With a pure statistical advantage, seeing it pop up when you capture a new Pal is never disappointing. This is a one-size-fits-all kind of Passive Skill without a doubt.
While Musclehead is situationally stronger, with a 30 percent buff to Attack instead, the fact that Ferocious has no downside is enough to land it higher. Definitely try to pass this down to your primary attackers and Fire Pals, especially going into some of the harder end-game bosses.
2 Artisan
If You Decorate Your Base In Palworld For Hours, This Is The Skill For You
- Work speed +50 percent.
While Ferocious and Musclehead are cute in their efforts, the real power play is Artisan. With a gigantic boost to work speed, this Passive Skill is the creme de la creme of worker Pals in your base.
This could easily give you a running start in resource gathering, even very early on in the game. Pals gathering wood, stone, and food this much faster at your base camp will make your life much easier. Even if you focus on combat and neglect your camp, this Passive Skill will immensely help fund your rampage.
1 Legend
Legendary Power Comes With Legendary Bosses
- Attack +20 percent, defense +20 percent, movement speed +15 percent.
Yes, you did not read that wrong, this Passive Skill is the combination of three others on this list. There's a good reason for that, though. The Legend Passive Skill can only be obtained on Legendary Pals that you capture. That's hardly a drawback though.
While you can't have a Legendary Cikipi (an absolute travesty to be honest), the Legendary Pals you can get are already the strongest Pals in the game. Add to that, an expansive stat boost from this Passive Skill, and they're borderline broken. Palworld has managed to make Legendary Pals feel special, which makes them that much more fun to hunt.
