- This entire segment is a clear reference to Silent Hill 4: The Room, in which Henry likewise finds a hole in the bathroom. Only, he climbs through it.
The first big puzzle you have to solve in the Silent Hill 2 remake involves a broken jukebox. It's missing a few key pieces, and the vinyl inside has been snapped in half. Being the good samaritan he is, James Sunderland makes it his mission to fix the record player, even if that means bashing a bunch of monsters to death in the fog.
He finds one of those pieces, the number two button, in a nearby apartment complex, but as fans were quick to point out, the exact location is a clear reference to Silent Hill 4: The Room.

It's hard to imagine horror on par with Silent Hill 2, but Mouthwashing pulls it off, and that's exactly why you should make room for it.
Posts 2In a dirtied, rundown bathroom on the third floor of the Saul Street Apartments, there's a strange hole in the wall. With zero survival instincts, James reaches his hand into the fleshy hole and grabs the Jukebox button. In Silent Hill 4, Henry Townsend finds a similar, albeit much larger hole, also in an apartment bathroom. But he puts far more than just his hand inside.
Henry Climbs Through The Hole, Naturally
In Silent Hill 4, Henry is trying to find a way out of the apartment. So, after pondering whether the hole will lead him to an exit, he throws himself inside and climbs along an eerily long tunnel towards bright white TV static.
Reaching the end causes him to pass out, and he wakes up on a giant escalator, descending further and further into the bowels of Silent Hill.
James got off easy in comparison. Reaching into a hole rewarded him with the missing Jukebox piece, whereas Henry found himself completely lost, face-to-face with a stranger rambling that he was in her dream.
