Immortals Of Aveum tells the story of Jak, a former street thief who gains exceptional magic power and is recruited to fight in the millennia-long Everwar. It's a first-person shooter with spells instead of guns, plus Metroidvania-style exploration and some impressive visuals.

That said, 2023 has been absolutely stacked with big games, so players might be hesitant to shell out for another sixty-dollar title. If you're on the fence about Immortals Of Aveum, we've laid out all the reasons that you might want to take this high-powered magical journey, or give it a pass.

Review

Immortals Of Aveum has gotten middling-to-good reviews since it launched. Its story, gameplay, and world-building are all decent, but there's nothing to the game that is especially original or groundbreaking. Our own review gave Immortals Of Aveum a dead-on-average two-and-a-half stars.

That said, not every game has to reinvent the wheel or revolutionize the industry. If, like me, you're starved for media that's based on a wholly original property or just want to pretend to shoot some bad guys with brightly-colored magic fireballs, Immortals Of Aveum could be just the thing to while away a weekend or two.

Immortals Of Aveum isn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination - it just doesn't do anything that hasn't been done before, and that's fine.

Cost

If you think sixty dollars is a lot to pay for a game that's just okay, you're right. Immortals Of Aveum is longer than most shooters, and there's optional backtracking to get upgrades and gear, so there's much more value to be had in the single-player campaign than there would be in similar games. However, unlike most shooters there is no multiplayer to keep players coming back; once you've finished the story, all there is to do is try it again on a higher difficulty.

Keep an eye on Immortals Of Aveum to go on sale. Even a small discount, putting it somewhere in the forty-to-fifty dollar range, would make the game a much more attractive purchase.

Time Expenditure

The main story takes roughly twelve to fifteen hours to complete, depending on how dedicated you are to solving optional puzzles and unlocking new abilities. There's enough exploration that you can easily rack up several more hours in the post-game, and a second playthrough on a harder difficulty isn't out of the question.

That said, once you've done everything there is to do in Immortals Of Aveum, there isn't much reason to come back to it. It could be a fun game to speedrun, but if that's not for you then this is a one-and-done title.
