Hollow Knight Fans Are Once Again Upset At Lack Of Silksong News

Summary
- Hollow Knight: Silksong recently got a new ESRB rating and Xbox store page, so fans thought a re-reveal was imminent.
- When the Nintendo Indie World came and went without an appearance from Silksong, disappointment sunk in.
- We've seen this countless times in the past five years, but hey, maybe Team Cherry is gearing up for an announcement, just not at Indie World.
Another Nintendo Direct, another mountain of 'Where Silksong?' comments, another day of fans losing belief that the game exists.
You know this song and dance by now. Everyone hyped themselves up thinking Hollow Knight: Silksong would finally get a release date and a new trailer, but it didn't, and now they're disappointed. The reasoning this time is that it got a store page on April Fool's Day and a new ESRB rating, so it looked like developer Team Cherry was preparing for a re-reveal. Maybe it was, but that didn't happen at Indie World.
Right at the end of the Indie World, there was a cheeky final announcement. Leaning forward in their seats, the day finally here, Hollow Knight fans perked up thinking this was it. Silksong! At last!
But the hotly-anticipated sequel shown off was SteamWorld Heist 2. Of course, SteamWorld fans were overjoyed, but after the Hollow Knight community set their own expectations (again), they quickly fell into another trap of disappointment. You can see what was no doubt a common reaction embedded above.
When Was Hollow Knight: Silksong First Announced?
Hollow Knight SilksongSilksong was announced two years after the release of Hollow Knight. It's been five years since then with infrequent and sporadic updates. Head of marketing and publishing Matthew Griffin recently confirmed that the game is "still in development," but offered no further insights.
Two years ago, new gameplay was revealed amidst the announcement that it would be coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch.
Even further back, in 2021, co-directors Ari Gibson and William Pellen took to Edge Magazine to discuss some of the differences in Hornet's playstyle, revealing that she's faster, jumps higher, and can mantle ledges. We also found out that the game is set in Pharloom, where enemies are more aggressive, better at pursuing, and more skilled at counter-attacking.
It's been a long five years, but the wait continues.
