On the surface, Helldivers 2 seems pretty simple. But there’s a lot of depth and hidden mechanics that all gel together well and provide an engaging and constantly evolving Galactic War. One hidden bit of tech is Supply Lines.

From fire tornadoes to heavy rainstorms, you'll encounter all different kinds of conditions on different planets.
PostsThough not immediately noticeable, Supply Lines have quite a big impact on how the wider war evolves and the more people that are made aware of them, the smoother the spread of Democracy will be. So for those looking to bring liberty to those lost worlds, here's how to use supply lines in Helldivers 2.
What Are Supply Lines?
First and foremost, Supply Lines are a hidden mechanic in the game and are not visual at all. They’re routes between planets and their neighboring systems that are taken by the A.I. factions and the wider player-led army.
Each Supply Line goes in a predetermined direction and whilst often going in just one route, they can often swing around and link up with multiple worlds.
For example, a Supply Line could lead to one particularly deadly planet in a chain, which is usually the target of a Major Order, but that planet also has connecting lines on the Galactic Map that ark off to other connecting side worlds. These will all need to be cleared and that takes time.
Multi-chained planets can be the reason why certain Major Orders take a lot longer to complete than others. There’s a lot of ground to liberate first.

PostsHow To Use Supply Lines
Whilst you can’t interact directly with Supply Lines and you can only roughly hazard a guess at where they are, there are ways to tell where you should be throwing your squad for their next Helldive.
For starters you can’t progress backward on the supply line, you can only go forward with the rest of the horde. If you’re unsure where that direction is, there's a Helldiver 2 Community-made Galactic War Live Map of the ongoing conflict that updates in real-time.
It shows where the next Major Order is being aimed and that’s generally where you should be going. Gaining more supply lines is crucial as more of them means more boots on the ground and other benefits.
How this translates to the game is; say there’s a Major Order for a specific world in space, you conquer that and there’s now a Supply Line going that direction into the next nearby Sector.
However, if you’re dealing with a Multi-World Sector, going for the other worlds and not the one in the Major Order means the conflict gets dragged out much longer than it needs to be.
Losing a Supply Line cuts off all nearby planets that were part of that particular chain, causing them to degrade and require Liberation again. However, each faction can only attack planets connected directly to a particular chain.
In the long run, this leads to fewer Helldivers in other areas of the galaxy, less variation in the types of drops you can do, flanks into Sectors outside of the Supply Lines, and the Major Order taking ages to complete. This means you’ll be stuck waiting around for way too long for those rewards to drop. Even longer if it’s a Defence Campaign.
It’s a complicated system, but there’s a reason it’s hidden as it keeps the Galactic War feeling alive and organic in its changes. So just head where High Command is telling you to go Trooper.
