Helldivers 2 gives players the most powerful weapons to fight the enemies of Super Earth, which are called Terminids and Automatons. While equipping the best weapons and powerful stratagems is vital for survival, wearing proper body Armor is equally important.

PostsYou can unlock advanced Armor in the game by buying from the Warbonds menu using Medals as the currency. Most Armor items come with a passive buff that gives each item a certain value for each player's playstyle. This guide breaks down what is Armor Rating in the game and its crucial role in Armor selection.
What Is Armor Rating?
Armor Rating is the survivability stat of your diver in the game. Theoretically, the higher the Armor Rating of a body Armor, the greater damage absorption your diver gets to experience before dying.
You can find three body Armor types in the game: Light, Medium, and Heavy. Light Armor has the lowest Armor Rating value, Heavy has the highest, and Medium sits in between. The Light Armor has the least damaging soaking ability, but it offers the highest Speed, so your diver can potentially outrun most bugs and bots chasing them.
On the other hand, Heavy Armor offers the highest damage absorption. Your diver can take more ranged and melee damage from Terminids and Automatons before succumbing to the overwhelming power of the foes.
The downside of equipping a Heavy Armor Rating item is that it gives you the lowest run speed and Stamina. You will die easily if the lethal bugs and relentless bots chase you.
The Medium Armor sits between the Light and Heavy, and it has all three stats, such as Stamina Regen, Speed, and Armor Rating, in the optimal zone. It is the perfect choice for you if you want to strike a perfect balance between all three important survival stats in the game.
What Is Extra Padding?
The Extra Padding is one of the many Armor Passive stats in the game that gives additional buffs to the diver.
The Extra Padding reduces your diver's damage against all explosive types. Any hit you take from grenades, Eagle bombs, Orbital bombs, and exploding mines will do much less damage if you wear the armor with this Armor Passive.
You can preview the Armor Passive of each body Armor while selecting the items from the Armory in the game. Most of the Medium and Heavy Body Armor items come with Extra Padding.
How To Make Armor Selection
You must always make the Armor selection based on your playstyle in the game. A defensive, fortified, and tanky playstyle player should always pick Heavy body Armor with an increased Armor Rating. On the contrary, if you like a run-and-gun playstyle, always pick Light Armor over any other type in the game.
Arrowhead confirmed that the Armor Rating is currently broken. It gives inconsistent results on the field due to a bug affecting the game.
