Summary

  • Hades 2 developer Supergiant is offering fans a chance to play early with technical test signups now open.
  • Supergiant is seeking players to help iron out issues for a smooth early access release this summer.
  • Test participants will explore the first major area of Hades 2, but be aware it may be unstable with potential crashes.

Hades 2 is arguably one of the most highly anticipated indie titles launching over the next couple of years, besides the mysterious entity that is forever torturing its fans called Hollow Knight: Silksong. Thankfully, those looking forward to Hades 2 are eating a lot better than Silksong fans at the moment, as developer Supergiant Games recently announced that the signups for a Hades 2 technical test are now open, giving fans a chance to play the game early.

Supergiant will be using the Technical Test to help them find any potential issues with the title before releasing its first early access build this summer, allowing players to have a "smooth play experience" straight out the gates. If you want the chance to play Hades 2 a little earlier than everyone else and help out Supergiant in the process, all you need to do is head to the game's Steam page and use the button to request access.

Once you've done that, if you're one of the lucky chosen when Supergiant starts sending out invites, you'll get an email from Steam with download instructions. Even if you're not, there's a chance you'll be invited in the next batch, as Supergiant plans to introduce more and more players as the weeks go by until the game's early access release. The test will last "longer than a week, shorter than a month", so there will be plenty of opportunities to get an invite.

What's Included In Hades 2's Playtest?

As for what you'll actually be doing if you get your hands on Hades 2, Supergiant has revealed that the game's technical test will only contain the first major area of the game. You'll be able to meet early-game characters and interact with early systems, but you won't be able to get any further than that. Supergiant likens the area to Tartarus in the original game, but a version that you can't get past even if you beat the final boss.

It's worth stressing that you will be playing a technical test of Hades 2, meaning it might be pretty unstable. If you do get invited, don't go in expecting the same level of polish that you can see in the final release of the first game, and Supergiant has stated that there's a high chance you'll experience crashes while it sorts out the kinks. That being said, it'll be a great opportunity to try the game out early, and I will forever hate you if you get in and I don't.
