Summary

  • The fastest and most balanced option, the Sister Blades are perfect for your early runs.
  • Witch's Staff is another good weapon for beginners, with a nice mix of close and long-range attacks.
  • If you're looking for more complex weapons, the range Moonstone Axe is tricky because it has ammo and you need to pick it up.

Hades 2 offers an entirely new weapon variety for Melinoe's roguelike journey through the Underworld to defeat Chronos. They have some of the most interesting and unique designs and are spot-on with the game's theme. Using these weapons, on the other hand, you'll see there are many pros and cons to just about all of them.

Hades 2: How To Unlock All Weapons And Aspects

Here's everything you need to know about weapons in Hades 2.

Posts

The combat encounters in Hades 2, like the first game, are structured very similarly, but with even more challenging enemies, bosses, and pesky mini-bosses. Finding the right weapon is crucial to your progress and overall experience, and these are all ranked with that in mind.

Hades 2 is in Early Access so any information is subject to change as its development progresses.

5 Umbral Flames

  • Requirements: Three Silver, Three Cinder

The Umbral Flames are a pain to acquire and use depending on how advanced you are with the game's systems as well as with defeating Hecate in battle. They require three Cinder, which is collected through fighting Hecate over and over again once you reach the end of the road in Erebus. She's one tough goddess to crack until you get used to her movesets and are equipped with the right Boons and upgrades.

It's truly not worth all the trouble to unlock the Umbral Flames, nor is it worth the trouble you get from using them. The main issue is it's a completely ranged-focused weapon and an unusual one at that, with Melinoe essentially running around with two torches and at the mercy of low-damage green orb projectiles striking foes successfully. You'll also need a really solid Magick build to go with these, otherwise you won't get far with them.

4 Argent Skull

  • Requirements: Two Glassrock, one Bronze

The Argent Skull, like the Umbral Flames, is another ranged weapon that can similarly prove challenging to get the hang of. An even more interesting twist with this one is that it's more ammunition-based, so your basic attack can only launch a maximum of three skulls at a time, and you'll need to recover them as a way of reloading the weapon. So, once you expend all your attack projectiles, you can only rely on the Special move to clear all remaining foes, or risk getting the skulls.

This may seem quite jarring of a mechanic for a weapon in Hades 2, considering how chaotic and easy it is to take damage fast and deplete health, and now you'll also need to manage one other thing and collect your skulls back. The good thing is that the Special is a pretty powerful dash with the fused-up Argent Skull Melinoe wields in her hand. But again, you'll need to make sure you have something equipped that will replenish your Magick bar consistently.

3 Witch's Staff

  • Requirements: Starter/Default Weapon

The Witch's Staff is Melinoe's starting weapon, and you'll come to find it's a pretty decent option to stick with throughout the game. Going with the theme of sorcery, hexes, and spirits, the coolest aspect of the Witch's Staff is the striking visual VFX when targeting foes with a basic attack or when using an Omega move with it, which sends a line of damage across both sides of Melinoe.

The Special attack is promising, particularly if you go for a strong Flourish Boon that will turn it into an equally effective ranged weapon and melee weapon that gives you the best of both worlds. You'll find the attacks are much more controlled and easier to get a handle on than the Umbral Flames, with no out-of-control projectiles causing much havoc and chaos here.

2 Moonstone Axe

  • Requirements: 15 Silver

The Moonstone Axe can be acquired rather quickly in Hades 2, depending on how much Silver you farm during your runs in Erebus with the Crescent Pick tool. This is a much, much better weapon to follow up the Witch's Staff with than the Umbral Flames. The attack pattern involves swipes and spins that have generous range and damage, so it's like you're dealing melee hits but also still being able to keep a safe distance, which is perfect for certain enemy types.

As with all axe-type weapons in games, the moves can be a little slower since it's a heavier weapon, and it also comes with a slam. There's a nice detail of the Moonstone Axe's weight based on the animation of Melinoe dragging it across the ground. The Moonstone Axe can become one of the most powerful weapons in the game, especially its Omega spin attack and whichever Boons you decide to pair those intense attacks with.

1 Sister Blades

  • Requirements: One Silver

Fast-paced fluidity and smooth, clean swipes in combat are what the Sister Blades have in store. This is probably the most easy-to-use weapon, and you can get accustomed to it right away. It will also be the fastest one you can unlock after the Witch's Staff, perfect for attempting to go far into your runs early on.

The attack Boons work very well with this particular weapon, especially Poseidon, Aphrodite, Hestia, or Hephaestus, dealing plentiful amounts of damage to clear smaller enemies in sometimes what could be a single swipe. The main drawback is the ranged Special attack, which you won't find as useful as the Witch's Staff, even if it gets some good Flourish Boons on it. Overall, Sister Blades is the best balance of all the options.
