PostsCompared to previous Modern Warfare events, these week-long events are rather straightforward and can be finished in a few hours. They aren't tied to any specific game modes either, so fans of Multiplayer and Zombies can participate. This guide will explain how these preseason events work, cover the best ways of progressing through each reward track, and list every reward you can earn from each event.
Updated November 29, 2023, by Charles Burgar: A third preseason event is now active in Modern Warfare 3, running from now until December 6. The 141 Training Week mixes up the camo grind slightly by requiring players to complete certain challenges in either core Multiplayer or MWZ. We've updated this guide to explain how the 141 Training Week event works, how it differs from previous events, and added a section detailing every reward added this week.
How Do Preseason Events Work In Modern Warfare 3?
During the preseason of MW3, Sledgehammer Games released multiple week-long events for players to participate in. Active events may be tracked from the "Events" tab from any lobby menu. Selecting the active event will display its unique reward track, leveling requirements, and any featured operator skins for that event.
Active Events
The current active events are Makarov's Return and 141 Training Week. Makarov's Return runs until December 1, and 141 Training Week runs until December 6.
A preseason event lasts for exactly one week, with each event offering a unique reward track. Once the week passes, those rewards become unobtainable. There have been two events in MW3's preseason thus far, as shown in the table below.
Event
Duration
Notable Reward
Endowment: True Legends
November 17 - November 24
Brave Stripes – Weapon Camo
Makarov's Return
November 24 - December 1
Makarov – Weapon Camo
141 Training Week
November 29 - December 6
Soft Target – Weapon Camo
Earning Rewards
Unlike most Call of Duty events, most preseason event rewards are earned solely through match XP. There are no unique currencies or challenge systems tied to this event. You simply need to earn XP for your account to unlock this event's rewards.
This event tracks account XP, not weapon XP. Boosters contribute bonus progress, so use any spare XP boosters during this event. Players already at max level can still earn XP and participate in this event.
Featured Operator Skins
If you equip a specified operator skin, you will earn an additional 1,000 XP at the end of every MP and Zombies match. This lasts until the end of the weekly preseason event.
Makarov is the chosen operator skin for the Makarov's Return event. You can unlock this skin by purchasing the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare 3.
As for earning XP, the best XP farm is MWZ currently, a strategy we cover more in our best XP farming guide. Complete as many contracts as possible to maximize your XP gains. If you dislike MWZ, Hardcore Kill Confirmed is a solid alternative.
141 Training Week Challenges
141 Training Week is slightly different from the previous preseason events. Instead of earning XP to progress, you must complete Multiplayer and/or Zombies challenges to unlock this event's unique rewards. Excluding the event camo, each reward has an accompanying Multiplayer or Zombies challenge tied to it. You can complete either the MP or MWZ challenge to receive credit; you don't need to complete both.
Once you've completed five challenges from the 141 Training Week event, you will unlock the exclusive Soft Target camo for all MW2 and MW3 weapons.
