Iggymob's Gungrave Gore, an entry in the Gungravegame series by Trigun creator Yasuhiro Nightow, is a game that looks great with stiff controls and other features that make it feel like a game from the early 2000s, the same era that its predecessors initially launched in.

Despite its flaws, Gungrave Gore can still provide entertainment for those interested. Due to its qualities, you might be looking for similar games you may enjoy more. Probably games that feature over-the-top action, an anime aesthetic, dated gameplay, or other similar aspects. Fortunately, there are plenty of games with those qualities.

8 Gungrave VR

The series' first VR entry, Gungrave VR, is set in South City, a formerly peaceful city overwhelmed by Orgmen, former humans infected with a drug known as SEED. To prevent the city from falling into complete ruin, Mika Asagi reawakens Beyond the Grave once again, so they can stop the Orgmen plague.

Despite being a VR-exclusive title, Gungrave VR features first-person and third-person gameplay, so there's a little more variety than expected. The game also uses a mechanic known as "Reaper Time," which temporarily slows down time and allows Grave and Mika to eliminate groups of enemies faster. Gungrave VR also has a sequel called Gungrave VR U.N. which adds side-view levels to the series.

7 Wild Arms 3

The most easily accessible game in the Wild Arms series, if players want more weapon action and anime style but would prefer a turn-based game, then Wild Arms 3 is a great choice. It still feels like a PlayStation 2 game because that's where it originally launched.

Wild Arms 3 takes place on a barren desert wasteland planet called Filgaia, where the four main party characters decide to become drifters on their own until meeting up with each other and taking on the now corrupt Council of Seven. Like many other JRPGs, Wild Arms 3 features battles with magic and the titular projectile weapons known as ARMS. Be prepared for random encounters, puzzle solving, and other JRPG staples.

6 Fist of the North Star Kens Rage

A game only available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and based on Buronson's popular Fist of the North Star manga series, Ken's Rage is a spin-off of Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors series. Due to its anime style, it can feel somewhat similar to Gungrave, although you're primarily using head-exploding martial arts instead of guns.

Ken's Rage features a single-player Legend Mode, which retells the manga's story through seven chapters and various missions with different objectives, and a Dream Mode that features What If scenarios for each playable character and can be played cooperatively with a second player.

5 Transformers Devastation

Transformers Devastation is similar to Gungrave Gore mechanically, in that it's a third-person action game with multiple playable characters and various melee and ranged weapons. Still, the characters are much easier to switch between and aren't stuck to specific levels. It plays much smoother since it was developed by Platinum Games, a studio primarily known for developing character action games.

Transformers Devastation sees the Autobots Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Grimlock, and Sideswipe going on an adventure to prevent Megatron and the Decepticons from using plasma energy to "cyberform" Earth. Because the game's license expired, it's not available to download digitally unless it was previously added to your library, so it's best to seek a physical copy.

4 Evil West

Launched on the same day as Gungrave Gore, Evil West features Jesse Rentier, one of the last few vampire hunters in America, as he saves the nation from the scourge of bloodsuckers. Evil West doesn't only feature a few different types of guns but multiple gadgets and a gauntlet Jesse can use to punch enemies to death, with them exploding on the final hit.

In addition to the single-player campaign, Evil West has a two-player co-op mode where a friend can play along as a second version of Jesse, providing twice the amount of gory over-the-top action. Still, it's odd that it's a copy of Jesse rather than one of his in-game allies.

3 Devil May Cry HD Collection

A compilation featuring the first three entries in the Devil May Cry series, these games have updated HD graphics and trophy support. However, they are otherwise standard ports of PlayStation 2 games, so they still feel somewhat similar to both Gungrave Gore and the two Gungrave games on PlayStation 2.

Devil May Cry is known for its stylized combat and coining the phrase "Stylish Action" with Style Rankings. These provide rankings from D to S based on your combo variety, and how many difficult ones you pull off in a row using various guns and other weapons, so it typically can feel a little smoother than the Gungrave series despite its age.

2 The House of the Dead Remake

The House of the Dead Remake is exactly what it says it is, a from-the-ground-up remake of 1997's The House of the Dead arcade game. Due to the modernized graphics, characters and enemies look slightly different than they used to, but some are very similar to the enemies in Gungrave Gore.

Although you can play by yourself in the single-player mode and with a friend in the co-op mode, due to its nature as a lightgun game, you can also play the co-op mode by yourself, which may feel similar to playing Gungrave VR but with campier dialogue, a different soundtrack, and more enemy variety.

1 Remnant: From The Ashes

Remnant: From The Ashes is a post-apocalyptic third-person shooter where humanity has been overwhelmed by evil beings from another dimension, but not all hope has been lost, as humans were able to create dimension-hopping technology that could help them defend against the evil creatures, find out their origins, and eliminate them once and for all.

Featuring mechanics similar to those seen in the Dark Souls game series, Remnant adds ranged weapons like various types of guns into the mix, which can be modified and upgraded by collecting various materials. Up to three players can also play together, with the game's difficulty increasing depending on the number of players present.
