Need to hit pause on your Fortnite grind without abandoning ship? This is where Sleep Mode comes in, Fortnite’s way of giving your game a nap while you recharge. After 15 minutes of doing nothing — yes, Fortnite notices — it’ll step in, mute your mic, and slap an Away sign on you. Want to tweak that timing or sneak into Sleep Mode manually for a quick snack run?

We’ve got the lowdown on how to make Sleep Mode your best AFK buddy without missing a beat. So, before your party wonders if you’ve gone MIA, let’s break down how to make Fortnite’s built-in snooze work for you.

What Is Sleep Mode?

The Sleep Mode is a feature that automatically activates after 15 minutes of inactivity, meaning no input from your mouse, keyboard, or controller.

When Fortnite is about to enter Sleep Mode, you will see a 30-second countdown. You can easily prevent this by pressing any button during the countdown, allowing you to return to whatever activity you were engaged in.

Sleep Mode pauses voice chat, time limits, and time reports, and if you’re in a party when it activates, your status will change to 'Away' in the lobby. Other party members can continue playing while you’re in Sleep Mode.

However, if you’re queuing for a match, Sleep Mode will cancel the matchmaking process.

When you’re ready to wake Fortnite back up, just choose 'Keep Playing' to jump back into the action, unless you were removed from a game for being idle or were in matchmaking when the mode began. In those cases, it’s back to the lobby for you.

If you’re trying to AFK XP Farm, Sleep Mode will still activate after the 15-minute window. It is not dependent on whether you're collecting resources, but rather, if there's movement from your device's controls.

How To Manually Enter Sleep Mode

Need a quick break but don’t want to fully exit? To manually enter Sleep Mode on PC, simply go to the main menu, select 'Exit,' and then choose 'Enter Sleep Mode.' This is helpful if you want to take a break but plan to return without fully closing the game.

How To Adjust Sleep Mode Settings

Want more control over your game’s napping schedule? If you'd like to customize how long it takes for Sleep Mode to activate, navigate to the Settings menu in Fortnite. Click on the Game tab, scroll down to 'Sleep Mode & Energy Saving,' and adjustthe slider to match your preferences.

Additionally, you can deactivate the feature entirely here.

Why Enter Sleep Mode?

Sleep Mode is designed to help you save energy and preserve your system’s performance when you need to step away from the game for a short period. Instead of leaving the game running and consuming resources, Sleep Mode pauses your activity, reducing the strain on your device and lowering energy consumption.

Plus, it lets you stay connected with your squad without fully bailing. While in Sleep Mode, your status will be displayed as 'Away,' letting your friends know you haven’t quit. This is useful if you need a quick break but plan to rejoin shortly, as you won’t need to reload the entire game when you return.
