Wild Hearts brings to life the beautiful and terrifying world of Azuma. The land is ruled by kemono, fantastical creatures born of both flesh and plants. The kemono aren’t simply big and deadly, oh no. They are two halves of nature’s whole, representing both plants and animals inside singular bodies. Not to mention, they can sprout roots and fully bloomed trees as well.

You, as the hunter, end up being everyone’s last hope once you become the hunter who’s taken down the toughest monsters causing the most damage to Minato and the neighboring areas. That means you will be sent on all the quests they can send you. Some of them are reward heavy, while others are more narratively robust. It’s up to you which you want to tackle.

7 Lost Hunter

You’ve been tasked to retrieve a fellow hunter who had been out hunting for sagecane deer much longer than expected, causing the merchant asking the favor of you to worry. As the Chief of Minato, it is up to you to help out all of those under your watch. So, you set out, hoping you’ll find him alive and well. Alas, the wilderness is a cruel creature, and you find the hunter deceased.

There isn’t much time to react as the warthog-like Kingtusk, three times your size mind you, raises massive roots from the ground in immediate defense of the feeding ground you’ve just trespassed on. It’s an intense fight to the death that you’ll come out on top of. Hopefully.

6 Rising Talent

Otomi is the leader of the Artisans guild, believes in the talents of a young crafter, and asks that you get some sorely needed supplies for the young man without him finding out. Surely, he'll know once he has the supplies, right? Either way, you agree.

The targets are two gritdogs, big dog-raccoon hybrids with a penchant for running away. Simple enough. So, you quickly dispatch them and gather the items you need and return them to Minato. Otomi is grateful and tells you how Yataro, the young artisan prodigy, is the hope of the future for their craft. It's touching, and you can see how much she cares for Yataro too.

5 True Tale Or Tall Tale

Ujishige is a wandering samurai who now spends his days in the company of a bottle or two, and is known to be a pretty detailed storyteller and a master who embellishes his exploits in his early hunting days. One such tale is when he’d come across a gigantic Dreadclaw in the Natsukodashi Isle, and he takes it down in a single hit, saving a little boy in the process.

Turns out, Ujishige isn’t simply telling tall tales, the Dreadclaw is alive, well, and ready to play. This overgrown chicken-tree hybrid will peck at you and clumsily fly in the air to get the drop on you. Looking at it fighting feels silly, but if you aren’t careful it will peck your life away.

4 Kindred Spirits

After legendary kemono Amaterasu attempts to lay waste to Minato, you and the rest of the residents wish to rebuild the damage that the mighty creature created in its rage. Yet, even as you defeated the mighty kemono, that was just the start of a long fight toward rebuilding.

The head of the Carpenter’s guild, Choji, has told you that, though progress is steady, there’s still the matter of a deathstalker blocking the road and preventing more supplies from getting you to town. So, you accept the hunt. It isn’t an exciting task itself (aside from the fight), but it’s integral in Minato becoming, at the very least, a shadow of what it once was.

3 True Culprit

A murder mystery in Wild Hearts seems a little more than far-fetched, especially if you consider that you are a hunter who hunts kemono, not a detective. Still, you are asked to go to Harugasumi Way to investigate the crime scene. On the surface, it seems as though the man just had an unlucky run-in with a kemono.

You find that you’ve been followed while you were investigating, and you have to save him from the kingtusk that was chasing him down. The distrustful man, Hikobe, runs away but doubles down that you aren’t investigating well enough and murder still occurred. Parts two and three lead you on the hunt for a mystery kemono, but the end is better left experienced.

2 Vassal’s Vow

When you make your way to Minato, your efforts will eventually put you in the proximity of the town’s Steward, Toga-Hime. She is the heart of the whole town and keeps it functioning as a hub for merchants and hunters alike. When the town is attacked by the god-like bird creature, Toga-Hime ends up missing due to the actions of her ward, and you're asked to find an item of hers to send to her family.

As you travel to the site, there’s still an ounce of hope that maybe you’ll find her hidden away from the danger. That tiny dash of hope is gone, and the only thing that lays in its wake is the creature that took her away. This request gets downright sad, but it offers closure to both you and the town.

1 Amaterasu

Without the serendipitous mix of you becoming a beacon of hope for Minato, and the city coming under attack, there wouldn’t be a need to help those around you to make things better than before. Amaterasu is the catalyst for change that no one asked for, but everyone worked around it.

Despite all of your efforts to protect the town and thwart as much damage as possible from the onslaught, many lives have still been lost and lives changed forever, taking something away from the city of Minato that can never be returned. Nevertheless, it is within this loss that hope still grows.
