The Five Nights at Freddy's movie will unpack Fazbear Entertainment co-founder William Afton's blood-drenched story. A huge part of that is his time in the Spring Bonnie suit, which fans will know as his iconic outfit for each killing spree, but it's also the suit he would eventually die in.

In the games' story, Afton murdered five children who would later possess the animatronics in his pizzeria, killing any adults who stayed the night. He killed them while in the Spring Bonnie outfit, a hybrid animatronic that employees could wear after using a mechanism to open it. We saw this fleshed out in the comics as Afton appeared scarred by the suit from prolonged use, wearing it naked so the mechanisms would press into his skin directly.

Fans think they've found evidence of him wearing the suit in the trailer, pointing to what looks like prosthetic scars on Afton actor Matthew Lillard's neck. They note that Lillard does not have these in pictures outside of the movie. A makeup artist, Forest, substantiated these claims, "I can clock that type of prosthetic anywhere. It's a bondo transfer scar! I have made many for shows and movies".

In the games, Afton is dead. He inadvertently freed the spirits from the animatronics while dismantling them. Seeing him once again, they immediately attacked, so he put on his Spring Bonnie suit to frighten them.

However, it had been worn down by rust and rain, so the mechanism triggered and crushed Afton while he was still wearing it, slowly killing him in a twisted display of irony. We would see his mutilated corpse puppeteering the suit in the games, a far cry from the incorporeal ghosts we were used to.

However, the novels mentioned that this had happened before, only he survived it. It's possible we'll see the same happen in the movie, hence the scarring.

The scars are on the right side of Afton's neck, and eagle-eyed fans have noticed that the Spring Bonnie suit, which appears in the trailer, seems damaged on that same side.

Something must've gone wrong while he was wearing it, but Afton hasn't been dissuaded. If the games tell us anything, he'll come to regret that.
