The massive manor belongs to Jessie's family going back generations and it’s a pretty sprawling zone that you can wander about and explore as you start to learn about the Rentier Institute and what they do. There’s a fair amount of lore and other collectibles in this chapter, but we’ll point them out as you go through. It’s a pretty action-packed section of the story, so let's get into it. Here’s a complete walkthrough of Chapter Three: The First Spark in Evil West.

The chapter begins outside the massive Rentier Manor, your current objective, to go inside and meet with various members including Jessies Father as well as take part in a presentation that’s showing off a new Gauntlet device that’s been developed. From the start, immediately go to the left, and on some crates will be Bucks. Directly opposite that collectible and behind the horse carriages on the other side is an issue of the Daily Mail News to grab as well.

With the collectibles shoved in your pockets, it’s time to head inside. Go to the objective marker and have a brief meeting with William Rentier (Jessies Father) and upon exiting the room go directly across the hall. On your way, you’ll see a collectible picture of President Lincoln and William Rentier to take as you pass, and in the library, there’s another issue of the Daily Mail News to grab on a table to the left. Turn around and look at the shelves on the right to get the Rentier Institute files and then go upstairs in this same spot in the library and there’s a bag of Bucks inside a bookcase.

There are a lot of collectibles in this one location. So take some time to scrape the rooms before going into the mission marker.

Go back down to the ground floor in the library and go towards the mission marker. Don’t go through it just yet, turn right and behind the two chilling Cowboys is a collectible portrait of William Rentier, good old dad. From there, go back to the main hall and up the stairs to the surrounding balcony. Run a circuit around it and you’ll find the Civil War Photograph andGauntlet Prototype collectibles. If you don’t grab them before you hit the second mission marker, they’re gone and it’s a full restart, so don’t forget these.

Head back to the mission marker and take part in the presentation.

Oh no, the Vampires have attacked, how surprising and unexpected. But it’s not all bad as you’ve now got the Zapper, a super powerful electrical upgrade to your Gauntlet that can let you do all sorts of fun and borderline broken moves. So use them on the Infected Wasters that get thrown at you in this small room.

Hop down into the burning wreckage and keep right, in amongst the flaming scrap are some Bucks. Although be careful as there are also some Infected Wasters prowling around this little area. Crawl under the gap and continue through the wreckage of the Airship as it explodes and collapses all around Jessie.

Eventually, you’ll drop into a big arena where you’ll be introduced to a new enemy type, the Infected Proteus. These are a massive pain in a fight as they throw bouncing exploding Tics at you. It may not sound bad, but they hit hard, their projectiles are difficult to spot since they bounce along the ground and they can chunk your health bar if you’re not paying attention. They’re easily dealt with by using either ranged weapons or a Zapper Pull to get them close then an E-Combo to melt their health quickly. The game likes to sit them on ledges, so you’ll need to get fairly close to them to pull them in.

The Infected Proteus's weak point will flash and though you may want to shoot it with your Rentier Rifle, it's more efficient to Zap Pull and punch.

During this encounter, you’ll also have to deal with Screeching Devils and Infected Vessels. But it’s not too tough as you can just Zap Pull them into punching distance one by one. Don’t bother with ranged options during this fight as for now your guns can’t take their health down quick enough and melee is much faster.

Beatdown dealt out, it’s time to move on. Climb up the nearby chains and continue along through the burning Blimp into the next area and a cutscene with Edgar where he asks you to destroy theRentier Archives before the Vampires get to it. The reason being there’s a massive collection of Vampire Noble heads down there waiting for the chance to regenerate fully again, along with a lot of valuable information that definitely shouldn’t get into the wrong hands.

Starting in this next area with wounded Institute Agents, look to the left and there’ll be a chest out in the open with 383 Bucks inside. Flip the nearby Power Switch on the right to open a gate down the nearby tunnel, and as you go around the corner in the tunnel there’s a glowing box to break with more gold. Dip under the gate, and bolt to the right quickly to get another bag of Bucks that’s on some shelves in the big Tesla Coil room.

In this area you’ll have a brief fight with your bug-tossing pals from before, the Infected Proteus. They spawn in each corner of the room so use your new Zap Dash move to deal with them quickly before the Infected Vessels spawn in and start harassing you. Creeps dealt with, time to move on.

The next room is where the Rentier Institute stores the heads of all the Vampire Nobles they fight, and there are a lot of them. They’re also not dead and will yell at you as you pass by, which is nice of them.

Follow the path around and down to the left in this room and you’ll find some Bucks on a box in front of you by the wall. Turn left again from here and at the end of the room will be a collectible lore note about Jessies Great Grandfather. Retrace your steps and head to the other side of the room at the same end and you’ll find a glowing box to smash apart for gold. That’s this part scoured, so move on because it’s time to start igniting gas mains to cause a really big bang.

Hop over the gap, turn the wheel on the right, and look left from there. There are three targets to shoot which will ignite the gas and blow up the Rentier Institute in a matter of minutes. Doing this also triggers Screeching Devils and a big blob of Infected Vessels to spawn in that small zone. But there is no timer on this fight, so take your time.

Once the fight finishes a nearby door will blow open that will lead to a collapsed elevator and your next point of progression. Although, before jumping over the gap, look right and break the barricade for another bag of cash. Head up the collapsed elevator and as you go along the path break the barricade on the right to get more Bucks. Drop under the gap and into the next area to meet another new enemy type, the Boo-Hag.

These guys are fast and aggressive brawlers that like to do big swipes and unblockable, hard-to-interrupt jump attacks. For now, you get introduced to a few of them one at a time, but later the game just dumps groups of them on you. It’s a step up from Infected Vessels, but they’re not too hard to deal with. Just use the Zapper to stun, then batter them senseless with the Gauntlet.

Hop over the gap after they’re dispatched, grab the nearby Energy Recharge for the Zapper and then go right and double back a little. There’s a barricade to burst open and a glowing box of Bucks to claim. Turn around 180 degrees from there, and run to the next barricade for another big arena fight. This one is a bit trickier as Evil West starts to slowly ramp up the size of the groups of Vampires in each arena, so it’s a good test of how you’ve been handling the game so far.

There’s Infected Vessels to deal with at first but then Infected Proteus will spawn in followed by a group of Boo-Hags. Keep on your toes with the dodge rolls and blocking and you should be fine. Screeching Devils will appear towards the end of the fight but you can dispatch them with an instant kill animation when using the Zap Pull.

Fight Finished, head inside the house, and on the immediate right through the big hole behind a flipped bed is a chest with 296 Bucks to grab. It’s also the last collectible for this area.

After heading inside the house, Jessie will encounter Felicity D’Abano holding the head of her father Peter. She’ll do the villain thing of monologing for a bit and showing off her worryingly strong Vampire powers, that is until the Rentier Institute gas main finally ignites underneath them. The two survive with Jessie escaping, the mansion exploding and Felicity sending her hordes of Undead after those that managed to slip her grasp.
