Bakbattahl – Battahl's capital – greets you with a web of conflict to navigate, notably via the Shadowed Prayers quest you'll receive soon after you arrive. Can you identify the assassin in time and save the Empress or will you allow the assassin to complete his mission? Save the Empress of Battahl in Dragon's Dogma 2 with this guide.

How To Start Shadowed Prayers

You'll happen upon the ShadowedPrayers quest while completing the Nation of the Lambent Flame quest, which brings you to Rockmouse's Burrow on the outskirts of Bakbattahl.

You can reach Bakbattahl by traveling south from the CheckpointRestTown gate, then east.

Here, you'll converse with Ser Menella, who will offer you a Battahl Residence Permit so that you may continue your adventure.

This Residence Permit will help you enter Bakbattahl, where this quest will take place.

However, there is one condition for Ser Menella's generosity: you must help to stop an assassin from completing his contract against the Empress of Battahl.

The only information you have to go off is a small piece of paper that states the assassin wears his hair back and has an injured right arm.

Rest until morning, triggering Ser Menella to move to the designated meeting point; then, meet her at Flamebearer Palace.

How To Save The Empress of Battahl At Flamebearer Palace

Once you're at Flamebearer Palace, you'll have a brief conversation with Ser Menella about apprehending the assassin.

You must grab the assassin once you have identified them, but be careful not to falsely accuse an innocent bystander.

Once the Empress' event begins, you'll be placed at the back of the crowd of attendees, left to make your observations and decide who to apprehend.

Apprehending The Assassin

You are looking for a man with his hair tied back, whose rightarm was wounded in a recent attack.

Don't be fooled by the many decoys set up around the room, as there are several men with their hair tied back.

You'll see a man on the right side of the room (from the entrance) matching that description in garb that exposes the injuries on his right arm, and his hair is tied back out of his face.

Grab the assassin, and they'll be apprehended, completing the quest and initiating a cutscene taking you to another room in the Palace to receive your reward.

If you identify the wrong assassin or are too slow, the Empress will be attacked, failing the quest.

Rewards For Finishing Shadowed Prayers

Ser Menella will be greatly indebted to you for your involvement in apprehending the assassin before they could make a move against the Empress of Battahl.

For your effort, Ser Menella will bequeath a small fortune upon you, which should help you to buy any gear or houses in Battahl you've been eyeing.

  1. Five Jasper worth 2,800 G each in Battahl)
  2. 18,000 G

The Jaspers are rarer in Battahl, so sell them while you're here, and not in Vermund, where you'll receive a paltry amount instead.
