The Ash and Iron update for Destiny 2is here. Portal has received a handful of new weapons to chase, some of which are found in specific playlists like Trials of Osiris or Pinnacle Ops. Check out our Ash and Iron weapons guide to see where each weapon drops and the exact perk pools each drop with.

Today, we'll be focusing on the best perk combinations you can get on this update's new weapons, excluding the new Desert Perpetual weapons. Keep an eye out for these rolls while farming for Power Level, as some of this update's weapons are quite strong and worth grabbing.

Burden Of Guilt

Burden of Guilt is back in the Ash & Iron update, and it's been reprised with some strong PvE and PvP perk combinations. As far as PvE is concerned, this can get a solid DPS roll of Envious Arsenal and Controlled Burst. While not bad for hotswap DPS, other special archetypes tend to fill this niche better.

Instead, we suggest you farm for Rimestealer and Crystalline Corpsebloom. The latter perk creates Stasis crystals on multikills, which you can break with your fusion to gain stacks of Frost Armor, increasing your character's damage resistance.

Crucible mains have a ton of good options here—Under Pressure, Eye of the Storm, Prepetual Motion, and Lone Wolf in the first column alone. We find Lone Wolf and Closing Time to be excellent traits here, greatly buffing the weapon's aim assist and handling. Under Pressure is a decent alternative to Lone Wolf if you tend to play more conservatively.

Drang

Sturm's legendary cousin is back in Ash & Iron, reprised with a new perk pool and access to the new gear tier system. Destiny has undergone some major sandbox changes since Drang was last reissued, so it's now able to roll with more Solar keyword traits like Heal Clip and Burning Ambition. If you loved Drang with Incandescent back during Season of the Haunted, it's still accessible. Either way, building into Scorch stacks with this gun is highly advised.

For PvP, this is one of a select few weapons that can roll with Disruption Break in the first column, debuffing Guardians with 50% Kinetic vulnerability for five seconds when their shields break. This makes cleanups trivial with any Kinetic weapon, notably Sturm. Drang is also the first sidearm to roll with Master of Arms. It doesn't lower the time-to-kill value at all, but it does lower the headshot requirement to achieve its optimal 0.6 TTK.

Everburning Glitz

Hazard of the Cast from Forsaken has been reintroduced as a Trials of Osiris reward, now known as Everburning Glitz. It's a Rapid-Fire AR that deals Kinetic damage, which means it can roll with some Kinetic-exclusive perks like Kinetic Tremors and the new Ancillary Ordinance perk. The latter perk should be spelled "Ordnance," but that's irrelevant.

Similar to the god roll Multimach from last year, Attrition Orbs is a fantastic pairing with Kinetic Tremors. Rapid hits will spawn Orbs of Power and cause the target to explode multiple times. It's a great mix of damage and utility that you'd expect from a primary weapon. We suggest the same perks for PvP due to their versatility.

Finite Impactor

Finite Impactor is back this season, this time reprised as a Solar Hand Cannon in place of an Arc 140. This means you can get Heal Clip in the first column and Burning Ambition in the second. Heal Clip is a decent pick if you plan on using Solar Fragments like Ember of Benevolence to greatly reduce your cooldowns. The healing itself isn't bad either.

The second column is less impressive here. Precision Instrument is your best option, making this gun stronger against tougher majors in PvE while countering some of PvP's more annoying DR and HP-related buffs. It doesn't adjust the TTK at all, but it does make landing three taps a little more forgiving when paired with another damage buff like Radiant.

Folded Root

Rocket launchers have so many good options in today's sandbox that it's virtually impossible to recommend a new one unless it's readily farmable or powercreeps the competition. Folded Root does neither. There's no access to Envious Arsenal, Envious Assassin, or even Clown Cartridge. Your best bet here is Air Trigger with Frenzy. If you want to anger your raid team by jumping around mid-DPS, be our guest. PvP doesn't fare much better; skip this weapon entirely.

Forced Memorializer

We normally avoid scout rifles entirely due to their poor damage profiles, but Forced Memorializer has such an odd perk pool that it's worth grabbing. It's one of a select few scouts that can get Shoot to Loot and Kinetic Tremors. Sustained damage to a target will release a series of explosive shockwaves, and each pulse can trigger Shoot to Loot. It's a great utility weapon for harder content.

Crucible mains shouldn't sleep on this gun either. Elemental Honing is significantly stronger on Kinetic weapons than other archetypes, granting a 20% damage bonus upon damaging targets with two unique elements. This is enough to make this gun kill in three headshots. Play Prismatic, or use a different subclass element from your energy weapon for some easy three taps. Pair it with Lone Wolf or Rapid Hit for more consistency.

Haliaetus

If you're unable to farm The Desert Perpetual raid for a good roll of the raid rocket launcher, Haliaetus is a solid replacement. This is the first rocket launcher to roll with Aggregate Charge, a perk that grants up to 33% bonus damage to targets affected by three or more debuffs. This includes keywords like Scorch, Weaken, Jolt, Unravel, and Sever. If it's an elemental keyword, it counts.

This is slightly better than Bait and Switch and is much easier to proc for raid and dungeon DPS encounters. Throw on Auto-Loading Holster if you want to use this for hotswap DPS rotations. PvP mains will likely use other rockets, but you can make Haliaetus work with Impulse Amplifier and Bipod. It's a great weapon if you can get the right roll, although it's still nowhere near as good as Hezen Vengeance or The When and Where.

MIDA Macro-Tool

The Marathon 2 shotgun has been rightfully repurposed as a new MIDA weapon this season. Fitting called the Macro Tool, this is a 65 RPM shotgun with the MIDA Synergy frame, allowing it to buff MIDA Multi-Tool with each kill.

For perks, there are a ton of good options here. Grave Robber with One-Two Punch is great for melee builds; Discord and Master of Arms can lead to some great damage against majors and Champions. And if you're inclined to shotgun in PvP, you can't go wrong with Threat Detector and Closing Time. It's a great shotgun all around, with or without its Exotic counterpart.

MIDA Mini-Tool

The MIDA Mini-Tool is back this season with a new perk pool and the same MIDA Synergy intrinsic.Attrition Orbs with Frenzy is a fantastic option for general PvE play, granting this weapon an immense boost to reload speed and a moderate boost to damage. Sustained damage will then spawn Orbs of Power to fuel any ability engine builds you're using.

Crucible players might want to give Master of Arms a try. It procs off any weapon kill, not just kills from MIDA Multi-Tool, and it lowers the gun's TTK to a solid 0.6s. Pair it with Heal Clip for easy synergy with Ember of Benevolence and other Solar Fragments.

Romantic Death

Wave frame GLs haven't seen much use since the introduction of rocket sidearms, but they're still a solid pick for PvE content. Romantic Death can get Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds, an S-tier combination that will provide Void Overshields once you proc Destabilizing Rounds. The add clear potential here is immense, provided you aren't playing content too difficult. If this gun can't easily kill adds, it loses almost all of its value.

Seraphine Haze

Aggressive SMGs are incredibly fun to use, especially in easier PvE content that's closer to your Power level. We recommend running Demolitionist with Adrenaline Junkie here. While an old combination, it's a fantastic trait combination in a sandbox that's ruled by ability-centric builds. Toss a grenade to reload your gun, benefit from a 33% damage buff if that grenade lands a kill, and land some rapid kills to fill your grenade energy. It's not flashy, but it's solid enough.

Target Lock makes this a solid choice for the Crucible, provided you can keep your aim on the target's head. Throw on Dynamic Sway Reduction to make this a little easier, or opt for Hip-Fire Gripand lean into the hipfire fantasy.

Submersion

Destiny 2's second crossbow is obtainable through Portal activities, so you'll no longer need to brave The Desert Perpetual to give this archetype a try. What makes this one special is its ability to get Chill Clip in the second column, freezing targets after two bolts. Impulse Amplifier fixes most issues with crossbows, making them reload significantly faster. It also makes the projectile much faster.

Serrated Bolts can trigger Stasis shatters on targets frozen by Chill Clip.

Some PvP players might want to use crossbows due to their reusable ammo, but they're somewhat tricky to use and are generally not worth using over other heavy weapons. If you want to give this a go, Auto-Loading Holster with Headstone isn't a terrible combination to try.

Unfall

Unfall is a rocket sidearm that has the Together Forever origin trait, allowing it to overflow Sturm's magazine with overcharged rounds. But unlike Sturm, Unfall can dish out some immense burst damage in PvE content thanks to its archetype. Since it's an Arc sidearm, you can run perks like Jolting Feedback in the second column to inflict Jolt on tougher targets. It's not quite as good as Indebted Kindness for clearing fodder, but it's a much better gun for killing majors and Champions.

It goes without saying, but rocket sidearms aren't great in PvP. Their ammo economy isn't great, and the buildcraft elements with this archetype are limited at best. Disruption Break can roll in the first column if you want to try some hotswap blint shenanigans here, but we don't recommend doing this for the vast majority of players. Aim for PvE rolls instead.
