Cyberpunk 2077 Is Getting A Free Trial Over Easter Weekend

Three years on from its disastrous launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has hopefully taught the video game industry two things. Most importantly revealing a game way before it's ready is a bad idea, but also even if it seems impossible, there can be a future for a game even if things don't go as planned when it's released. Cyberpunk is now the game we all expected it to be at launch, and if you have avoided it until now for its prior issues, you'll be able to play the game for free this weekend to see what all the fuss is about.
CD Projekt Red has revealed that PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners who don't already own Cyberpunk will be able to play a free trial of the game over Easter weekend. The free trial begins at 11 am EST on March 28, 2024, and will end at 2:59 am on April 1, 2024. Before you start making plans to play the game all weekend, and potentially even finish it, the free trial will only run for five hours, presumably starting when you first open the game.

Gangs Of Night City is already 20 percent off a little more than a month after its release.
PostsThe trial will only grant you access to the base game - so no Phantom Liberty DLC - but it will be the most up-to-date version of the base game available. That means a chance to experience the vehicle combat mechanics added via Update 2.0, and the metro system that can take you around Night City added as part of Update 2.1. You will not need a subscription service to access the free trial. This isn't a PS Plus/Game Pass exclusive. It's available to anyone with a PS5 or Series X|S.

DIGITALDeveloped by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person action role-playing game based on the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG. You must choose your path through life in the lawless Night City, while contending with the memories of Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves).
Powered by Expand CollapseIf you do take advantage of the Cyberpunk free trial this weekend and decide the game is for you, your progress will carry over into the full version. That means no starting over should Night City pull you in for the full five hours. As for how you can access the free trial, details on exactly what you will need to do to download it haven't been revealed. Hopefully, it will be as simple as navigating to the store page on your respective console and finding it there if you don't already have a copy of the game in your library.
If you have a PS Plus Premium subscription, you can start your five-hour free trial whenever you like.
Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk's only expansion, was released last year, adding Idris Elba's Solomon Reed to the game. An expansion so good that some considered Cyberpunk for 2023's game of the year. Despite its poor start to life, Cyberpunk's revival has been successful enough that there will be a sequel. CDPR has already confirmed there will be a follow-up game, but with a few Witcher games to focus on first, it'll be a while before we see it.
