Though the Nintendo Switch has plenty of games, exclusives included, that are well-suited for adults, these titles aren't typically what comes to mind when you think of the console. And while series like Super Mario are truly enjoyable for all players and can be quite challenging, sometimes you want to play something different while still having the convenience of playing on your Switch.

Which Was The Better Nintendo Console: The Switch Or The Wii?

The Switch is now officially Nintendo's longest-running home console. It stands alongside the Wii as the company's two massive hits of the 21st century. Which was the better of the two?

Posts

Whether you’re playing a hack-and-slash, a choice game, or one of the classics, you have a wide variety of games available to you. Some of these non-exclusives feel practically made for the Switch, as the game might make more sense on a handheld console than on a PC or another gaming platform. These are the best Nintendo Switch games for adults.

10 Bayonetta 2 And 3

Close

The Bayonetta series has always been known for its appeal to mature audiences. After all, the protagonist, Bayonetta, is likely the campiest character in gaming and certainly one of the most iconic in Nintendo's repertoire. The witch’s appearance and fighting style are unique in comparison to other female protagonists, standing at around eight feet tall and always giving the performance of a lifetime in every fight.

Both Bayonetta 2 and 3 are available on the Nintendo Switch, so you can spend plenty of time with the iconic character. One of the highlights of the series is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. The game's plot, gameplay, and characters are campy and fun with hilarious dialogue.

9 Little Nightmares 1 And 2

Close

Aesthetically, Little Nightmares 1 and 2 feel like what could be a Nintendo version of a horror game. The two games, both in the survivor-horror, platformer, and puzzle genres, were developed by Tarsier Studios, with the second also being developed by Supermassive. These games take you on a journey through two different horrifying settings, the Maw and the Pale City, while you play child characters Six and Mono, respectively.

Despite there being no dialogue, the plot of each game has a surprising amount of depth, and the monsters you face are as uniquely creative as they are terrifying. To really emphasize the horror in the game, you're often running from enemies, hiding, or trying to sneak past them, inducing suspense everywhere you go.

8 Metroid Dread

Close

Though usually associated with the action-adventure genre, the Metroid series always had a bit of a horror element, and Metroid Dread really drives this point home. In Metroid Dread, intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran visits the planet ZDR, where she discovers a new alien race called the Chozo. While on the planet, you’ll face plenty of devastating boss fights and other foes while trying to traverse the dying environment.

In addition to the Chozo, Samus also encounters a new enemy type called Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifiers, or E.M.M.I. Though Samus is typically the biggest threat to any foe, these powerful enemies force her to run and hide rather than face them head-on. Aside from enemy encounters and new attacks, the side-scroller also features an expansive setting with a range of different environments.

7 Life Is Strange: Arcadia Bay Collection

Close

If you're someone who gravitates toward narrative and storytelling, the Life Is Strange: Arcadia Bay Collection should be added to your queue. The game consists of five episodes that follow high school student Max Caulfield, who recently discovers she has the ability to reverse time.

As Max, you’ll use your abilities to deal with challenges ranging from awkward social interactions to saving lives. The game has an intense plot that explores several mature themes as Max uncovers sinister truths and tear-jerking experiences. The collection also features the prequel Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, in which you play Max's friend Chloe Price.

6 Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Close

There’s nothing quite like the nostalgia of playing the video games of your childhood. The Nintendo Switch allows you to do this by remastering some of your favorite Super Mario games. Super Mario 3D All-Stars features three classic Super Mario games: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.

With All-Stars, you can experience your favorite games again, now with the updated controls of the Switch. Yes, it may feel different from your Nintendo 64, Gamecube, or Wii, but that doesn’t make it any less fun.

5 The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Close

No matter what your interests are, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a must-play on the Nintendo Switch. Link wakes up in Hyrule 100 years after the Calamity, an event that devastated Hyrule, leading to Link's long slumber and subsequent amnesia.

The open-world game takes you on a journey across an expansive map, as you traverse brutal environments like scorching hot deserts and freezing tundras. Each region in the game has plenty of side characters and missions to encounter along the way. You also have a wide array of weapons and shields to collect, recipes to make, and puzzles to solve.

4 Hades

Close

While some non-exclusive games on the Switch don't perform well, others feel like they were made for it. In Hades, the roguelike game transports you into Greek mythology’s Underworld. Zagreus, son of Hades, is trying to escape the Underworld, but it seems like an impossible task. Every time you die, you’re sent right back to where you started.

It’s an easy game to get lost in as you continue to improve while doing the same thing repeatedly. It might take you 30+ times to actually make it out, but it’s so rewarding when you finally do. When you’re not fighting enemies, you’re conversing with Greek gods and romancing other characters from the mythos.

3 It Takes Two

Close

It Takes Two is the perfect game for adults who like a good story and some co-op. The game pulls you into the life of Cody and May, a married couple with a daughter. After years of being together, the couple grew apart and decided to separate. However, the couple isn't officially divorced and continue to live together. Their daughter Rose is struggling with the decision and desperately attempts to reunite them.

While playing by herself, Rose accidentally turns her parents into dolls. From then on, Cody and May must work together to become human again. This takes them through a world unbeknownst to them, providing deeper insight into Rose's thoughts and feelings. Aside from being a fun co-op game, It Takes Two's complex themes surrounding love, marriage, parenthood, and divorce are easier to appreciate from an adult’s perspective.

2 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Close

Though it was initially released back in 2011, Skyrim continues to be a fan-favorite for gamers of all types. The RPG introduces you to a vast fantasy world full of creatures spanning from dragons and elves to mages and goblins. In this story, your character, the Dragonborn, sets off on a journey to defeat the dragon, Alduin.

As you traverse across the open-world, you’ll encounter an abundance of side characters and side quests. If you want a fully immersive gaming experience where you can create your own character and take control over your story, you’ll want to give it a try.

1 Overcooked

Close

Binging The Bear and want a more immersive experience? Not everyone works in the kitchen, and you may not even be a great chef yourself, so games like Overcooked fill a void that you may not have known was there.

Overcooked is a great game to play with friends, though, like Uno, it can get heated pretty quickly. “If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen” works in more ways than one here, as you might miss your quota, accidentally start a fire, or fall into lava in some of the more challenging levels.
