Fans of The Truman Show see the overlord producer that controls every element of the titular Truman's life as a villain justly thwarted. You, however, are a simmer and rather than thinking about the villainy of controlling a human life, you think about how you could do it better. The Sims 4 community has a challenge for you inspired by The Truman Show, where you can prove your prime peremptory producer prowess.

Create, follow, and influence your own Truman through the highs and lows of his life. Make sure that Truman thinks that he lives a normal, autonomous, life while you covertly work with hired sim actors to puppet him and create the greatest reality show known to sim.

The Rules

The Truman Show Challenge is about controlling the life of a sim that you do not control yourself. That means you have control over all the people in your sim's life, but you can not give that sim direct actions.

You will need to rely on various social interactions as you guide your version of Truman from crib to grave. While you keep your Truman alive, you will also guide him through various milestones to achieve victory.

For a detailed summary of the rules and milestones check out the original post by simmer Hurley Gammer.

Set The Stage

There are no requirements when it comes to creating your own Truman at the start of the challenge. You might want to make the beginning of this challenge easier for yourself by choosing traits like: Angelic, Calm, or Sunny.

The only requirements for Truman's parents are that they both have the Family-Oriented trait and wear vintage 1970s-style clothes. If you love fidelity, pull up some screenshots from The Truman Show and try to replicate Angela and Kirk.

Now you have a bit of freedom with the remaining two traits of Truman's parents. You should consider picking traits that will help you care for Truman. A few base game traits that are good options would be: Neat, Genius, Foodie, Cheerful, Perfectionist, and Good.

Of course, working with sims who have the best traits might make this challenge a bit too easy for an experienced simmer. Consider giving yourself an extra challenge with sims who have big personalities, like: Hates Children, Mean, Self-Absorbed, Evil, Slob, and Hot-Headed.

Select any empty lot that you can build on and move your new household in. Press Control-Shift-C to open up the cheats menu and enter “motherlode” for your initial investment. Close the menu with the same button input, and get to work building your set.

To maintain the theme of the challenge, you should build a 70s-inspired home. Additionally, all technology for Truman should be from the 70s. That means no flat-screen televisions and, more importantly, no computers.

Struggling to build a good-looking set? Consider looking up floor plans and interior design images from the 1970s to use as reference.

Infancy

Fans of The Truman Show know that Kirk leaves the show in a staged drowning in front of Truman when he was a child. One milestone is to replicate that before Truman becomes a teenager. For that reason, you must be cautious of how you invest in Kirk and Angela in the early stages of the challenge.

Angela should focus on career and skill development.Later on in Truman's life, she will be his only caretaker, so you should take this opportunity to ensure Angela becomes a financially independent super-mom.

Angela should train her cooking and parenting skills to help Truman out later in life. For that reason, consider employing Angela in the culinary career. That way, the only additional skill you need her to train is mixology.

Kirk should be a stay-at-home Dad, so that he can ensure that Truman gets the top-notch infant trait. Infants often do not need that much attention, so consider giving Kirk a money-making hobby like handiness or painting.

Handiness is a great skill for Kirk to learn. Not only will you earn extra simoleons but you can upgrade the furniture and appliances to provide additional moodlet bonuses for Truman before Kirk leaves!

Toddlerhood

Now that Truman is a bit older, you want to set him up for success as best as you can. Keep Kirk as your primary active sim and either unemployed or working from home during this time. Your goal should be to train Truman’s toddler skills as fast as you can to set him up for academic success.

Kirk should focus exclusively on Truman at this stage. Once all of Truman's toddler skills are at maximum, you can start to let Kirk return to the hobbies you gave him.

Continue to develop Angela's cooking and parenting skills for the benefits they can provide Truman. A high cooking skill means that Angela's meals will provide stronger moodlets for Truman, helping him at school. High parenting will let you influence who Truman becomes through Angela's strengthened discipline interactions with children and teenagers.

Childhood

Kirk must leave the household before the end of Truman's childhood. That does not mean he must leave immediately, so you should take advantage of a few extra days with Dad. Let Angela earn some extra dough while Kirk helps to get Truman a head start in education.

Next, you will introduce Truman's best friend Marlon. Create a new household with two generic parents and, more importantly, Marlon, a boy the same age as Truman. You should give Truman’s prescribed best friend Marlon traits like: Goofball, Good, or Outgoing, in order to ensure that the two become fast friends.

Switch to your newly created household and control Truman’s prescribed best friend, Marlon, until you have them achieve best-friend status. Once you are confident in their friendship level, you should switch back to Truman's household and resume control of Angela.

To maintain Marlon and Truman’s relationship while controlling Angela, you shouldhost frequent social events, like slumber or dinner parties, with Marlon’s family to give the boys plenty of time to spend together.

Teens

Once again, you introduce a new character into Truman's life with his girlfriend and future wife Meryl. Optimize their relationship in the same as before: make space in Truman's neighborhood, create two generic parents, and Meryl.

Again, you have full control over the traits, so be sure to pick traits that will help Meryl and Truman's love blossom quickly. A quick list of traits you might consider for Meryl are: Romantic, Self-Assured, Good, Loyal, and Outgoing.

Once you’ve maximized their relationship and have the couple going steady, switch back to control Angela. You can maintain the relationship between Truman, his best friend, and his girlfriend by making Truman a local legend and frequent house parties.

You can save yourself a lot of post-party clean up clicks if you give Angela the Neat trait to get the unique self-interaction cleaning frenzy.

Adulthood

Truman needs to move out as a young adult as soon as possible, so you will need Meryl to marry him just as fast. You should have Meryl propose to Truman, have as much of a wedding as you want, and then move the couple to a new lot.

Meryl should focus on maintaining the house and raising her cooking skill to provide powerful moodlets for Truman. Keeping Meryl at home also gives you additional opportunities to influence Truman whenever he is at home.

Once married and moved, you must quickly have Truman join the business career. A higher charisma will help Truman further his business career, so you should encourage Truman to raise his charisma skill by having Meryl and him chat frequently

Newer simmers might benefit from keeping Meryl as a house spouse to make controlling Truman easier. Those looking for an additional challenge might consider giving Meryl a job in the medical career like in the movie. Just be prepared to have less influence over Truman when Meryl is at work!

Elder

Once Truman has become an elder, you should have already accomplished everything necessary to satisfy the challenge.

Remember, you will only succeed in this challenge if Truman dies of old age and elderly sims can die of over exhaustion. Give Truman a safe hobby like painting, handiness, or writing in order to help him stay busy and earn a few simoleons in retirement.

The last milestone likely to remain is to have Truman visit “Fiji”, which will be less difficult if you have Outdoor Retreat. If you do not have Outdoor Retreat then you can visit one of the many hidden locations in The Sims 4.

Beyond that, focus on keeping Truman safe and comfortable in his golden years, and you'll beat The Truman Show Challenge!
