Baldur's Gate 3 is not without drama between party members. After recruiting Wyll and Karlach, they have a tense moment where one has to decide if they're going to kill the other. Fortunately, you can help resolve this problem pretty easily.

There is one fight that's not so easy to break up. One night when coming back to camp, you can find Lae'zel and Shadowheart arguing about an artifact. On one hand, it seems to belong to the Githyanki. On the other, it's protecting you and everyone else from being controlled by a God. It is possible to calmly put a stop to the conflict — It's all up to the luck of the dice.

Triggering The Fight

When you recruit Lae'zel into your party, she insists that you find a creche to solve your Mindflayer tadpole problem. Pursuing this quest will eventually put you face-to-face with a Githyanki patrol. If you have Lae'zel with you, she'll run off to greet them. While participating in the conversation, you learn that the Githyanki are looking for the artifact you have.

No matter how you end this encounter, you'll wind up heading to the Mountain Pass where you can find the creche Lae'zel seeks. From this point on, when you long rest, there's a chance that you'll walk into camp to find Shadowheart and Lae'zel arguing over the artifact.

The Beginning Of The Fight

Lae'zel demands that Shadowheart hand over the artifact because it belongs to her people. Shadowheart doesn't want to give it up because she's on a quest to take it to Baldur's Gate; that, and it's protecting everyone from the influence of The Absolute.

There are no dice rolls for this initial fight. You can take sides, or you can tell both of them to go to bed and sleep. Either way, Lae'zel will mention having a duel come morning over the artifact. However, it turns out that Shadowheart can't wait that long.

How To Stop Shadowheart's And Lae'zel's Fight

That night, you'll wake up to see Shadowheart holding a knife to Lae'zel's throat. After watching the exchange, you'll have a choice to make.

Choice

Outcome

Do nothing.

This will result in Shadowheart slitting Lae'zel's throat.

Make a DC 10 Persuasion roll to talk Shadowheart down.

If you're successful, the fight will stop.

Attack Shadowheart

Shadowheart will become hostile, and you'll have to kill her.

If you fail the Persuasion roll, Shadowheart will kill Lae'zel. While you can't have Shadowheart cast Guidance on you for this encounter, if you're a Cleric, you should consider doing it to yourself or use some other type of buff to give yourself an advantage. The check might be low, but you can never be too careful.

When you talk to Shadowheart and Lae'zel the next morning, they'll tell you that there will be no more fighting for now. Tensions might still be a little high between them, but when have they ever really gotten along?
