Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Aren't Loving The New Sektor And Cyrax Designs

Summary
- Sektor and Cyrax return in Mortal Kombat 1 as DLC fighters.
- Their new designs are very different from their appearances in previous games, leaning more into the ninja side of being a cyber ninja.
- Fans are split on the designs, with many preferring their look in Mortal Kombat 11.
Sektor and Cyrax are back, coming to Mortal Kombat 1 as part of its second wave of DLC. However, since the game is set in a new timeline, this interpretation of the cyber ninjas is very different - and remarkably less cyber.
The duo were revealed yesterday at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring heavily in the trailer for the new DLC fighters. This time around, they're both women, and their designs appear to lean more into the ninja side of their cyber ninja origins.
Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Split On Sektor And Cyrax Designs
Despite the pair being fan favourites for the roster before launch, many players are disappointed with their new looks. Over in the Mortal Kombat subreddit, many are frustrated that the cyber suits have been toned down this time around, not anywhere near as bulky as they were in previous games.
"They look too much like people wearing hockey pads and goalie masks and not like cyborgs/robots," says Reddit user effreeti. "It doesn't help that the [Mortal Kombat 11] designs were so peak."
"Agreed, the designs themselves just aren't really compelling," replies ShawnDesmansHaircut. "Plus did we really have to make them so same-y? We've been at the stage for a while where the old palette swap ninjas now have very distinctive designs, so why didn't we do that here?"
Indeed, you only have to look at the differences between Kitana and Mileena, as well as Scorpion and Sub-Zero to see how much the other ninjas have changed over the years. And while this is a new look for the cyber ninjas, they are looking pretty identical to one another.
Of course, there are those who think the new designs look great. Over on Twitter, the reveal seems to be going down a whole lot better.
If you don't care for this new look, their more traditional designs are still in the game. Both Cyrax and Sektor appear as Kameo fighters, with appearances that are much more reminiscent of their debut designs in Mortal Kombat 3. It also remains to be seen what kind of skins they'll get when they join the roster, as these might go down the community a little better.
