While somebody could spend hundreds of hours sitting idle in orbit while their friend is away microwaving pizza rolls, you may want to take a break from battling Hobgoblins and swatting down Shanks. Here are a few video games to play that are like Destiny 2.

Updated on February 6, 2024 by Zackary Wiggs: Destiny still lives on, bringing in new fans and keeping old ones entertained with interesting stories, realistic characters, and classic gameplay mechanics. For those that can't seem to get enough of Destiny 2, thankfully, there are a handful of games out there that share some of the games ideals. Whether it's the futuristic world of games like Cyberpunk 2077, or the online system that Destiny made pouplar that games like Remnant 2 share in common, here are even more games for you to play that are like Destiny 2.

25 Outriders

Not Quite The Destiny Killer

Outriders

Third-Person Shooter Released April 1, 2021 Platform(s) PC, Stadia, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S Powered by Expand Collapse

This game might not have lived up to the hype surrounding it before full launch, but it's a fun little title to pick up with friends. The rough-around-the-edges alien world feels like Destiny's, but with more swearing and gore. The classes can be very satisfying with four options: pyromancer, trickster, technomancer, and devastator.

The campaign moves at a decent pace and the loot tables are rewarding. If you're looking for a different experience that still offers a similar setting and solid gunplay, Outriders is the way to go.

24 Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition

MMOs Come In Fantasy Flavor

One of the first games that took the universe of Dungeons & Dragons to the digital world. This sprawling fantasy world full of dungeons, monsters, and various types of characters to customize too. Sound familiar?

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition brings the classic online game to more modern consoles, with some bug fixes and some sharper graphics to boot. If you liked Destiny 2, but wanted a more 'ye olde' feel to the world, then this is a great choice.

23 Deep Rock Galactic

Dwarves In Space

Deep Rock Galactic little gem of a game puts you in control of dwarves mining random planets and fighting off bug-like creatures. But there's a delightful culture of dystopian capitalism pervading the game. Think of Bioshock meets Borderlands in terms of the tone, but with Gimli from The Lord of the Rings.

The action will obviously differ from Destiny PvP, but the campaign is similar since you're fighting off aliens (essentially) with a team or solo. You can also customize your character, choose from several classes, and play mini-games in the main shared area (read: The Tower).

22 Void Bastards

Pulpy, Brain Off Goodness

Void Bastards

FPS Roguelite Released May 28, 2019 Platform(s) PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch Powered by Expand Collapse

This game has immediate aesthetic appeal with its vintage, comic-book animation style. There are space prisons, a terribly British government, and things called Void Arks. You happen to get stuck on one with a group of fellow prisoners who are...freeze-dried? If you add water, you get a new prisoner which is good since you'll be sacrificing them on missions often.

Beyond the oddity of its setting, the mechanics of the game offer a fun loop as you explore ships, kill creepy bad guys, die or succeed, and rinse/repeat.

21 World War Z

Fast-Paced Zombie Shooting

Zombies might not seem to have a place in the 'games like Destiny 2' Venn diagram, but you'd be surprised. World War Z, while a mediocre Brad Pitt movie, is not only a fun zombie shooter, but it's fully cross-play and is also available on Nintendo Switch.

20 Splitgate

Arena Warfare

Splitgate

FPS Released September 15, 2022 Platform(s) PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S Powered by Expand Collapse

Splitgate is Halo with portals. And... it kind of is, but it totally works. While there aren't really RPG elements to Splitgate, the addictive nature of its high-speed combat is undeniable. You'll also get some hilarious clips to show friends with all of the portal shenanigans afoot.

It might also offer some catharsis for Hunter mains who, canonically, have not been Bungie's favorite class when it comes to nerfs and buffs.

19 Cyberpunk 2077

The Future Never Seemed So Bleak

Cyberpunk 2077

RPG Action Released December 10, 2020 Platform(s) PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, PC Powered by Expand Collapse

While it doesn't fall completely into the same genre that Destiny 2 does, Cyberpunk 2077 does have some impressive similarities that should make it worthwhile to plenty of Destiny's fans. A future on the cusp of change, robotic advancements, and a dark threat around every corner; there's plenty of love.

True, it had a rocky launch, but since then the developers have worked at really polishing the game with better graphics, less glitches, and plenty of further updates that make the world of Cyberpunk shine, despite it's rather dark view of the future.

18 Alienation

Top Down Action

Alienation provides a slightly different take on the looter-shooter formula. Rather than being first or third person, the game utilizes an isometric point of view, making it somewhat unique in the current day and age. It's been fairly well-supported since it launched back in 2016, too, so there's still a fairly sizable player base.

Unfortunately, it's a PS4 exclusive, meaning that PC and Xbox gamers will have to look elsewhere. For those with the right hardware though, it's definitely a title worth checking out. It may lack Destiny 2's variety of weapons and the customization options might not be as deep, but it's a game that's packed with charm and character.

17 Risk Of Rain 2

Pick It Up, Put It Down, & Repeat

Risk of Rain 2

Third-Person Shooter Roguelike Released September 11, 2020 Platform(s) Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4 Powered by Expand Collapse

In many ways, Risk of Rain 2 is a lot more accessible than Destiny 2 and demands nowhere near the same time investment. The game finally came out of early access a few months ago and is starting to really deliver on the promise that it showed when it first launched on Windows at the beginning of 2019.

It's a third-person shooter with many rogue-like qualities that should provide many hours of fun. Although the endgame still needs a little work, it's come a long way over the last year and so there's every reason to believe that it will continue to improve. As a stop-gap, it's an excellent choice, but it's also a fairly decent shout for a long-term investment.

16 Final Fantasy 16

Talk About Storylines

There are few game series out there that maintain their fanbase quite like Final Fantasy does, and Final Fantasy 16 often times feels like a whole new era in the longstanding series. Whether you're a fan of JRPGs or not, Destiny 2 fans should try it out.

The plot's a little bit more out there than in Destiny, which only makes sense after well over a dozen installments, but it still has all the weight and grandeur that you've come to love. The characters are another big draw. They're diverse, fun, and often flawed in a way that makes them relatable.
