You’ll be finding plenty of naturally-occurring resources as you scout the wilds in Monster Hunter Stories, but don’t keep all of them for yourself – it’s always helpful to be collecting things for the Subquests offered by assorted folks in the various settlements across the map.
RelatedEvery Monster Hunter Game In Chronological Order
Monster Hunter continues to be well and alive after almost two decades. With so many titles, it can be confusing to know how to play them in order.
PostsWhether you’re grabbing some Normal Subquests in the hopes of earning resources, Zenny, new gear, and more, or you’re more focused on the Special Subquests that task you with harder goals that yield much better rewards, it always pays to work on all the Subquests in Monster Hunter Stories – you never know what you’ll need!
This Monster Hunter Stories subquest guide is a work in progress! Check back as we continue to unlock and complete new subquests.
Subquests Pay In Cash, Resources, And More
When you first begin playing Monster Hunter Stories, you'll see around Hakum Village before long that certain characters have a ! above their head. The red and orange ones progress the main story, but blue ! bubbles means you've got a new quest you can accept. Once you've finished what this person is asking for, you'll see them have a white ! bubble instead.
Finishing a few subquests unlocks the Quest board. You'll typically find one in most major settlements across the map, like Hakum Village and Gildegaran. Here, you can accept more subquests, track which ones you're actively working on, and even turn in quests instead of seeking out whoever was offering it. Check the board often, since a lot of the subquests in Monster Hunter Stories involve things you're already doing anyway.
Some people ask you to fight a set number of a certain monster, while others may ask for specific resources and quantities of them, so we found it helpful to accept all the subquests, gather and fight your way through the world, raid monster dens, and check back periodically to see what you already finished organically.
The subquests in Monster Hunter Stories reward you with resources, money, recipes, and more, so be sure to accept as many as you can to boost your stats!

Normal Subquests are most likely to be repeatable, so always check - you'll be doing a lot of this stuff anyway, and it never hurts to earn bonus rewards for the same amount of work.
