PostsOne core element to builds in this game involve skill upgrades, a mechanic that you won't have access to right away. Nearly every skill in the game has a skill tree you can invest resources into, modifying the skill's behavior to drastically increase its effectiveness. Let's go over how to upgrade your skills in Mandragora and how to get the main resource needed to upgrade each skill.
How To Upgrade Skills In Mandragora
CloseYou'll gain the ability to upgrade your skills upon completing the "Witch's Hunt" story quest, the main quest chain for the first portion of the campaign. Once you've slain the Necromancer, return to the Altar of Power in the Witched Tree to learn about Entropic Essence and how it can be harnessed to enhance your character.
As for upgrading your skills:
- Travel to the Witched Tree
- Interact with the Altar of Power, which is a short distance to the left of spawn.
- Enter the "Skill Upgrade" tab
- Select any skill you wish to upgrade.
Nearly every skill in Mandragora has at least three purchasable upgrades. These are shown in a fairly small skill tree. Some upgrades may only be purchased if you've obtained all preceding upgrade(s). For example, the T3 upgrade for Chaos Beam is locked behind the T2 upgrade. The T1 upgrade is separate, so you can choose to buy either T1 or T2 from the get-go.
Once you've unlocked the ability to upgrade your skills, you can upgrade any skill you've unlocked throughout your journey, not just those tied to your class. Keep this in mind when upgrading your character, as some skills have their item/class restrictions removed with investment.
How To Get Entropic Essence
CloseEntropic Essence is required to upgrade every skill in Mandragora. You can get this resource by completing Entropic Portals found throughout the world. As with skill upgrades, you'll unlock these timed dungeons upon completing the "Witch's Hunt" quest. Essence Portals are marked in your map with a yellow tear icon; keep your eyes peeled for them.
These dungeons require you to collect as many materials as possible and escape before the lantern runs out. Some portals will transport you into a boss arena instead, but the same rule applies. Your lantern will passively lose energy as you remain in entropy. Use your time wisely to open any chests you find and slay monsters that stand in your way. Doing so will grant Entropic Essence you can use in the material world.
It's also worth noting that Entropic Essence also drops from slain bosses. The amount you get will depend on how difficult the boss is. Generally, main story bosses drop more Entropic Essence than checkpoint bosses. You'll need to kill roughly five bosses on average to upgrade a skill, assuming you never delve into Entropic Portals.
