Making choices is generally beneficial, though in the realm of video gaming, it can sometimes add a layer of complexity. This is particularly true in Pokemon TCG Pocket, where players are presented with various packs of Pokémon cards. Each pack showcases a specific Pokémon on its cover and contains a unique assortment of cards within.

Within the Space-Time Smackdown expansion, two distinct pack types are available: Palkia and Dialga. Players aiming to collect every card from this expansion will find it essential to open a plethora of both types. However, those with competitive aspirations might want to consider prioritizing one pack over the other based on their particular strategies.

Palkia vs. Dialga: Which Pack Should You Open First?

Ultimately, the choice of which pack to open first often reflects personal preference. Nevertheless, there are several utility cards exclusive to each pack that provide significant advantages. Notably, Palkia packs include the Rocky Helmet, widely considered the most effective of the three Pokémon Tool cards in the set. Unlike the Giant Cape, which offers a one-time health boost of +20 HP to a single Pokémon, the Rocky Helmet can inflict 20 counter damage multiple times throughout a match, making it particularly synergistic with Pokémon that boast high HP.

In addition to Rocky Helmet, Palkia packs also feature the Cyrus supporter card. This card allows players to bring a damaged bench Pokémon into an active role. Another compelling addition from the Palkia pack is Mars, which functions as an enhanced version of the Red Card, becoming more effective when the opposing player is ahead. On the contrary, Dialga packs provide a supporter card featuring Dawn, which has limited utility compared to the more versatile options found in Palkia packs.

When it comes to Pokémon selection, the decision becomes more intricate, depending on the decks players wish to construct. A few standout cards are evident, such as Darkrai ex (from Dialga), which can inflict damage while remaining on the bench. Meanwhile, Weavile ex (from Palkia) can deliver 70 damage to an opposing damaged Pokémon for just a single energy, proving to be an excellent pairing with Cyrus. Furthermore, Infernape ex (from Palkia) offers substantial damage with minimal energy costs but requires discarding all energy used after an attack.

Another notable Pokémon, Garchomp (Palkia), can deal a whopping 150 damage with only two energy when supported by Cynthia, also allowing players to draw an extra card each turn through its Reckless Shearing ability. Conversely, Lucario (Dialga) stands out with its Fighting Coach ability, which increases the damage of all Fighting-type Pokémon by 20, making it an excellent tactical partner for powerful ties like Rhyperior and Gallade ex. While Shaymin (Dialga) may appear less effective with its Fragrant Flower Garden ability, healing only 10 damage in contrast to 20 from Butterfree, its status as a Basic Pokémon rather than a Stage 2 Pokémon is a strategic advantage.

Should You Open Dialga or Palkia Packs First? (Final Verdict)

In determining which pack should take priority, players are encouraged to review the full range of cards featured in the Space-Time Smackdown expansion. This analysis will help identify which cards hold the greatest value for their intended deck compositions. With this knowledge, players can then focus on opening the pack that provides a majority of their sought-after cards until they observe a shift in availability. When the other pack surpasses their preferred cards, players should make the switch and continue this strategy until all desired cards are acquired.
