In Death Stranding 2, players often encounter lengthy delivery missions that can stretch across vast landscapes. However, navigating these challenges can be simplified significantly by utilizing the game’s intricate road and monorail systems.
This article will focus specifically on the monorail system, which players can unlock by restoring the mine during the main storyline. Notably, the game does not explicitly inform players that they can further enhance the monorail network through side quests.
To improve your delivery efficiency, it is essential to prioritize the construction and expansion of the monorail system. This guide outlines the step-by-step process for expanding the monorail in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Expanding the monorail system involves utilizing Tracklayers, which are substantial structures located throughout the game world. Players can deposit vital materials such as Chiral Crystals, Resins, and Special Alloys into these Tracklayers to facilitate repairs and improvements in the monorail system.
Tracklayers are identifiable by their large black poles topped with a distinctive blue light, making them relatively easy to locate from a distance. However, be aware that their locations are not shown on the map until discovered, necessitating thorough exploration. Players often have better luck finding these structures at the edges of the map. Once identified, Tracklayers will then appear with an icon on your map.
Given that Tracklayers are often positioned near monorail stations, spotting another Tracklayer nearby is likely. Take the time to scan your surroundings for additional Tracklayers as you explore.
After depositing all required materials into a Tracklayer, the corresponding segment of the monorail system will automatically undergo repairs.
How to Source Materials for the Monorail
However, discovering Tracklayers is just the beginning; players will need a substantial quantity of materials such as Chiral Crystals, Resins, and Special Alloys to successfully repair and expand the monorail system in Death Stranding 2.
Resins and Special Alloys can be acquired by locating lost cargo in the game, which is commonly labeled with these names. Additionally, materials can be obtained by recycling unwanted cargo or gathering resources from various facilities and the DHV Magellan.
Chiral Crystals, in particular, can be farmed using specific strategies. Players can earn a considerable amount by defeating BTs (Beached Things), as each defeated BT drops Chiral Crystals. To locate BT-infested areas, consult your map for red ghost icons.
You can also find Chiral Crystals scattered throughout the environment. They tend to grow from the ground in various regions, and can easily be spotted with Sam’s sensor, which causes Chiral Crystals to emit a yellow glow.
Lastly, it’s prudent to explore regions adjacent to mines, as these areas are often filled with Chiral Crystals. It’s possible to harvest a remarkable amount — up to 2, 000 Chiral Crystals — from a single mine.
