The enduring success of the Rainbow Six series within the tactical first-person shooter genre can be attributed to its commitment to maintaining authentic tactical gameplay. While other franchises, such as Battlefield and Call of Duty, have transitioned toward more arcade-like experiences, Rainbow Six has remained rooted in its strategic origins.

Rainbow Six Siege stands out as a premier multiplayer tactical shooter, enabling players to engage in diverse scenarios that necessitate meticulous planning and execution. With access to over 60 distinct operators, each equipped with unique skills and gadgets, players can craft their strategies in real-time. Recently introduced into the lineup is Solis, an intriguing Defender who brings a set of unique abilities to the battlefield.

Updated on January 16, 2025, by Mehrdad Khayyat: Following significant nerfs, Solis has seen a decline in her pick rate among defenders. Nonetheless, this does not diminish her potential value on a team. She remains a viable choice for players who prefer aggressive run-outs or vertically oriented strategies, yet she now demands a more calculated approach to play effectively.

Understanding Solis’ Abilities

Solis serves as a Defender Operator with a specialization in detecting electronic devices, primarily through her SPEC-IO Electro-Sensor Helmet. When she activates her ability, Solis temporarily relinquishes access to her weapons, much like how Pulse operates with his Heartbeat Sensor.

While players may find parallels between Solis and IQ, they possess notable differences. Solis has a more limited detection range than IQ; however, her key strength lies in her ability to ping the locations of detected electronics for her entire team. It’s important to note that she cannot ascertain the type of electronic device until it has been pinged, creating a layer of strategy during gameplay. Additionally, Solis’ ping ability comes with a cooldown period and has only three charges available.

However, her ability has drawbacks. When utilizing her detection device, Solis alerts the operator controlling the drone by indicating her presence on their screen. This warning effectively reveals her approximate location to the attackers.

Solis’ Loadout Overview

Solis is equipped with close-quarters combat (CQC) weaponry, including the P90 Submachine Gun and ITA-12 Shotgun as her primary weapons, alongside the SMG-11 Machine Pistol as her secondary option. Additionally, she is armed with a Bulletproof Camera, useful for gathering surveillance, although it can be hacked or disabled by enemies; thus, strategic placement is crucial. A Proximity Alarm may also be utilized to alert Solis of enemy movements nearby.

For players adept at managing the SMG-11’s recoil, opting for the shotgun as a primary can yield greater flexibility in combat situations.

Maximizing Solis’ Effectiveness

At the heart of Solis’ role is her capability to gather crucial intel, making her an excellent choice as a roamer. By positioning herself near entry points, she can gain insights into enemy movements without activating her detection ability. Given that many attackers will drone before making their entry, she can utilize her ability to pinpoint the droning operator’s location, providing a critical advantage. Additionally, even if faced with a claymore near the window, Solis possesses the skills to capitalize on the situation to secure a kill.

In terms of vertical gameplay, should Solis aim to intercept the planter, it is advisable to conserve at least one ping for the late game to accurately locate the defuser. Players should familiarize themselves with standard plant spots and remain vigilant in lower areas for optimal effectiveness.

Despite recent nerfs, Solis continues to be a strong choice for run-outs. However, the removal of impact grenades limits her ability to counter multiple claymores during surprise maneuvers.
