Top Demos from Steam Next Fest June 2025 – Must-Play Experiences for Your Weekend

Steam Next Fest has returned, offering gamers an exciting opportunity to explore thousands of game demos available for download on Steam. This event allows players to discover potential new favorites prior to their official release.

One of the highlights of Steam Next Fest for me is the ability to sample numerous new games without any cost. Many of these demos are designed to be brief, often lasting no more than 20 minutes, which means you can experience a flurry of new adventures in a short time.

Throughout this week, I immersed myself in several demos, and I have compiled a list of my top picks that you should check out this weekend.

Top Demos to Try This Weekend from Steam Next Fest – June 2025

Mina the Hollower – Yacht Club Games

Release Date: October 31, 2025 Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Mina the Hollower is an easy recommendation for me due to its engaging platforming elements. As a fan of Yacht Club Games since Shovel Knight, I was initially surprised to see a shift away from traditional 2D platformers with this title. However, the early gameplay footage quickly reassured me that this game would be an exceptional experience.

Having played the demo, I can confidently assert that it has become my most anticipated game of the year, especially with the confirmed release date.

Baby Steps – Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch & Bennett Foddy

Release Date: September 8, 2025 Platforms: PC, PS5

What happens when the minds behind QWOP, Getting Over It, and Ape Out collaborate? You get Baby Steps, a game featuring a 35-year-old man who learns to walk in a rather unconventional manner. The absurdity of its intentionally frustrating mechanics coupled with humor had me intrigued from the start.

While the demo is short, it hints at a more layered narrative, emphasizing the humorous challenges faced by our protagonist in his everyday life. I can’t wait to see how this develops in the full game.

Bloodthief – Blargis

Release Date: TBA Platforms: PC

As a fan of the original Ghostrunner, I was eager to play Bloodthief, a game that effectively combines fast-paced 3D platforming with intricate parkour mechanics. The early levels invite you to explore and discover alternate paths, creating an exhilarating gameplay experience.

This title shifts from its predecessor’s high-gloss cyberpunk aesthetic to a more muted medieval setting, enhancing the thrill of combat against armored foes.

Henry Halfhead – Lululu Entertainment

Release Date: TBA Platforms: PC and Consoles

I have a passion for unique puzzle games, and Henry Halfhead delivers. Its engaging mechanic of jumping into different objects keeps the gameplay fresh and stimulating.

Although the demo merely touches on introductory puzzles, it shines a light on what could be a standout puzzle experience for the year.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound – The Game Kitchen

Release Date: July 31, 2025 Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Announced at last year’s Game Awards, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound has generated excitement similar to that surrounding the development of an IO Interactive James Bond game. The Game Kitchen’s expertise ensures that this revival of the 2D action-platforming series brings something exceptional to the table.

Yasuke: A Lost Descendant – Dallience Studios

Release Date: TBA Platforms: PC

This title comes with a caveat of performance issues during the demo, but the action-packed gameplay and visually stunning combat of Yasuke: A Lost Descendant were still impressive.

Gamers who enjoyed Devil May Cry 5 and are looking for something similar should keep this title in mind. With the understanding that this is an alpha build, I am optimistic about its potential once fully polished.

Metal Eden – Reikon Games

Release Date: Q3 2025 Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Despite its delay and lack of a new release date, Metal Eden showcased thrilling gameplay that kept me captivated. Its seamless shooting mechanics and fluid movements resemble titles like Bloodthief and Ghostrunner, and I eagerly await its arrival.

Morsels – Fork

Release Date: 2025 Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S

Among all the demos I experienced, Morsels stood out as my favorite. The dreamlike art style and captivating soundtrack instantly captured my attention.

If you can only play one demo this weekend, I highly recommend Morsels. This unique creature-collecting roguelite offers an engaging gameplay loop that I can’t wait to explore further when it launches.
