Sony’s Shift on PC Game Account Requirements: A Response to Gamer Feedback

In a move that has stirred significant discontent among the PC gaming community, Sony previously mandated that players create a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to access several of its popular game ports, including titles such as Helldivers 2, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and God of War Ragnarok. This requirement was not only cumbersome for gamers who wished to avoid managing yet another account but also problematic for those in regions lacking PlayStation Network support, rendering these games entirely inaccessible in various countries.

Positive Changes Ahead

Encouragingly, it seems that Sony has taken note of the widespread dissatisfaction surrounding these account requirements. The company has announced that for four major single-player titles—two of which are already available and another about to be released—players will no longer need a PSN account on their PCs. Instead, those who opt to link their PSN accounts will have access to exclusive in-game bonuses.

Exclusive Bonuses for Linking Accounts

The following table summarizes what players can expect from these upcoming allowances:

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Unlock early suits: Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit God of War Ragnarok Access to the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos, plus a resource bundle including 500 Hacksilver and 250 XP The Last of Us Part II Remastered Receive +50 points for bonus features and extras, including Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for Ellie Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Gain access to the exclusive Nora Valiant outfit

The Last of Us Part II Remastered Launch

Fans should note that The Last of Us Part II Remastered is set to hit PC on April 3, aligning neatly with the premiere of its HBO adaptation’s second season, which will explore the same narrative themes.

Future Considerations

While these changes are a step in a positive direction, there remains uncertainty regarding whether this new policy will extend to Lost Soul Aside, the indie action title being published by PlayStation, which is expected to launch later this year across both PC and PlayStation 5 platforms.
