The whimsical world of Stardew Valley is undeniably charming, yet players often grapple with an irritating adversary—crows. One morning, you may wake up only to find your precious pumpkins mysteriously vanishing. Fortunately, this problem is easily remedied with a little preparation.

From the outset, players are introduced to the Scarecrow, an essential tool for safeguarding crops. However, enthusiasts soon learn that there exists more than one variation of scarecrow, significantly enhancing both their utility and aesthetic value.

Among these variants are the Rarecrows, which function similarly to traditional scarecrows with an equivalent range of protection but boast unique, stylish designs. As we delve into the specifics of how to acquire each Rarecrow and the exclusive reward for collecting all eight, readers will find this guide invaluable.

Rarecrow #1

The first Rarecrow is reminiscent of Studio Ghibli’s charming artistry. You can procure this figure during the Stardew Valley Fair, held on Tuesday, the 16th of Fall. At the shop, you’ll find an array of prizes, including this Rarecrow and even a Stardrop.

To quickly earn points for your purchases, focus first on completing the Grange Display, which nets you 1000 points. However, hold off on spending them right away.

Next, head to the Spinning Wheel for a bit of gambling—while it’s not mandatory, it’s the most efficient method to accumulate additional points. Consistently bet half of your current points on green; statistically, this choice is more likely to win than orange.

Even if you lose on your first attempt, persistently bet on green. With a touch of luck, you’ll soon find your points soaring! Feel free to stack your luck with bonuses for added advantage.

Rarecrow #2

Acquiring the second Rarecrow is notably straightforward. Attend the Spirit’s Eve festival on the 27th of Fall and simply purchase it from the shop for 5000g. While saving money may be a priority at this game stage, consider this small investment to avoid waiting another in-game year for a second chance.

Rarecrow #3

Out of all the Rarecrows, this alien-like figure poses the greatest challenge to obtain, but don’t fret; preparation is key. This Rarecrow is exclusively available at the Casino in the Calico Desert.

First, ensure the bus is repaired and finish “The Mysterious Qi” quest by placing a battery in the underground box. This quest involves delivering various items, but it culminates with you receiving a Club Card that grants casino access.

Choose a day when luck is at its peak—such as when “The spirits are very happy today!” Using the casino’s unique Qi Coins instead of gold is wise. You can buy these coins at a conversion rate of 1 Qi coin for 10g, meaning the Rarecrow will cost you 10, 000 Qi Coins—a hefty 100, 000g if purchased with gold!

It’s advisable to get this item when you have a luck charm, such as after completing Secret Note 20 in winter. Before you enter the casino, consume a luck buff like Lucky Lunch or Magic Rock Candy. Start by purchasing Qi Coins, and then dive into the Slot Machines.

Surprisingly, this casino favors players. With maximum luck, betting in increments of 100 Qi Coins will likely yield profiting outcomes, allowing you to amass the necessary 10, 000 Qi Coins to purchase the Rarecrow and enjoy great rewards like Farm Warp Totems.

Rarecrow #4

After that intensive challenge, the remaining Rarecrows become comparatively easier to collect. This unique snowman Rarecrow can be obtained by attending the Festival of Ice, scheduled for the 8th of Winter, where it is available for 5000g.

If you miss the festival, don’t despair; you can also find this Rarecrow from the traveling merchant during Fall and Winter for 4000g. Be sure to check in early on Fridays and Sundays to avoid waiting until the following year.

Rarecrow #5

This Rarecrow is likely your first encounter in Stardew Valley. On the 24th of Spring, the Flower Dance festival takes place, and amidst delightful floral decorations, the Rarecrow is available for a mere 2500g. If your budget feels tight, remember that waiting until next Spring is not advisable; be proactive and acquire it as soon as possible!

Once purchased, this Rarecrow will tirelessly work to protect your crops, continuing its mission year-round until your collection is complete.

Rarecrow #6

Acquiring the sixth Rarecrow can prove a bit tricky, as it heavily relies on your luck throughout gameplay. This Rarecrow can only be purchased from the Dwarf, located to the right of the mine entrance. You’ll need to clear the path, but before that, collect all four Dwarf Scrolls to understand his dialogue (gifting is still possible without discovering all scrolls).

These scrolls can be discovered across the mines:

  • Dwarf Scroll 1: Find it by tilling on various floors or defeating early monsters, such as Cave Flies and Rock Crabs.
  • Dwarf Scroll 2: Tilling floors 1-39 or battling Dust Sprites and Ghosts will yield it.
  • Dwarf Scroll 3: Obtain from monsters like Lava Bats or Blue Slimes.
  • Dwarf Scroll 4: Can drop from any monster or from tilling on floors beyond level 80.

After you donate all four scrolls to the museum, Gunther will gift you the Dwarfish Translation Guide, enabling you to purchase this Rarecrow from the Dwarf for 2500g.

Rarecrow #7

Closely related to the sixth Rarecrow, you will earn the seventh as a reward from the museum after donating exactly 20 artifacts. These include specific items like the Dwarf Scrolls and Arrowheads, excluding minerals like gems.

Your best bet for amassing artifacts is to crack open geodes, till artifact spots, or purchase Artifact Troves from the Desert Trader.

Rarecrow #8

The eighth and final Rarecrow can also be obtained from the museum following the donation of 40 items, which encompasses both artifacts and minerals capable of being displayed. Due to the abundance of minerals compared to artifacts, it’s likely you will obtain this Rarecrow prior to the seventh.

Once collected, both of these Rarecrows can be acquired again from the Night Market if you so desire.

Deluxe Scarecrow

Upon successfully gathering all Rarecrows, you’ll receive a letter overnight containing the recipe for crafting a Deluxe Scarecrow. This advanced scarecrow boasts double the coverage of a regular scarecrow, minimizing the space required on your farm while adding a touch of style.

The crafting materials for the Deluxe Scarecrow are slightly more expensive, requiring:

  • 50 Wood
  • 1 Iridium Ore
  • 40 Fiber

By the time you acquire this recipe, you should have plenty of iridium from excursions to the mines or other valuable sources.

Rarecrow Gathering Order

It’s important to note that while each Rarecrow is assigned a specific number, you are unlikely to collect them in that precise order. Below is a suggested order that many players follow; your experience may differ:

Rarecrow Type Location Rarecrow 5 From the Flower Dance in your first Spring. Rarecrow 8 Mining frequently will net this one quickly. Rarecrow 1 Purchase during your first Fall at the Town Fair. Rarecrow 2 Buy it at the Spirit’s Eve Festival. Rarecrow 4 Acquire it at the Festival of Ice. Rarecrow 7 Winter is perfect for mining and finding artifacts. Rarecrow 6 While mining, hunt for the Dwarf Scrolls. Rarecrow 3 Get the Luck charm first, then visit the Casino.

If you follow this order, you are likely to complete your Rarecrow collection and unlock the Deluxe Scarecrow before your first year ends. With an army of Deluxe Scarecrows at your disposal by the onset of your second Spring, you will be well-equipped to protect your crops for seasons to come.
