Congratulations on amassing an impressive collection of enchanted weapons throughout your quests in Oblivion Remastered. As you venture deeper into the vast landscapes of Cyrodiil, engaging in epic battles against Daedra and skeletons, you might find that the magical energies of your cherished artifacts are depleting. Once their charges are exhausted, these potent items lose their enchanted properties, leaving staffs useless and melee weapons nothing more than their mundane, unenhanced counterparts.

Recharging Enchanted Items in Oblivion Remastered

To restore the magical power of your enchanted weapons, you can utilize Soul Gems. These gems come in various sizes, from Petty to Grand, each capable of replenishing different amounts of charge. Bigger gems are suited for more powerful enchanted items. However, before you can harness a Soul Gem for recharging, it must first contain the soul of a vanquished creature.

Filling Soul Gems in Oblivion Remastered

To fill a Soul Gem, you must first defeat an enemy while using the “Soul Trap” spell. Ensure you have an empty Soul Gem in your possession that is adequate to hold the target’s soul. Generally, the procedure involves several key steps:

  • Weaken your foe until their health is nearly depleted.
  • Cast the Soul Trap spell or wield a weapon imbued with the Soul Trap enchantment.
  • Finish off the enemy; their soul will subsequently be captured in your empty Soul Gem.
  • Utilize the filled Soul Gem to recharge your enchanted item.

It’s important to note that souls of living beings can only be contained within Black Soul Gems, which are quite rare due to the taboo surrounding necromancy in Cyrodiil.

However, you can obtain Azura’s Star by completing Azura’s Daedric Artifact quest, shown on the map above. This reusable Soul Gem provides an infinite supply of souls for your recharging needs, making it invaluable for maintaining your enchanted arsenal throughout your journey.

Acquiring the Soul Trap Spell

The Soul Trap spell is categorized as an Apprentice-level spell within the Mysticism skill. Thus, you’ll need a Mysticism level of at least 25 to effectively cast it. You can enhance your Mysticism skill by training at the Chorrol and Bravil Mages Guild halls or repeatedly using a novice-level Detect Life spell.

Alternatively, you can enchant a weapon with the Soul Trap ability using a Sigil Stone obtained from an Oblivion Gate or at the Enchanting Altar located in the Arcane University. A notable weapon that features this enchantment is Umbra, recognized as one of the game’s most formidable swords.

Be cautious when utilizing a Soul Trap weapon as your primary blade, as lesser souls can inadvertently be absorbed into larger Soul Gems if they are the only type you possess. I still vividly recall the frustration of witnessing a petty rat’s soul being captured in my sole Grand Soul Gem.

To prevent this dilemma, obtain Azura’s Star early in your adventure to eliminate concerns related to Soul Gem management, or reserve the use of your Soul Trap weapon exclusively for deserving foes.
