PUBG Productions Unveils Closed Beta for New Single-Player Survival Roguelike Prologue: Go Wayback!

PUBG Productions Initiates Closed Beta for Prologue: Go Wayback!
PUBG Productions has kicked off a new closed beta for its highly anticipated single-player survival roguelike titled Prologue: Go Wayback!. This marks the fifth playtesting event hosted by the studio since the game’s initial announcement in December 2024, with plans for an early access release in summer 2025.
Closed Beta Details
The closed beta is now live and will continue until May 14. Gamers can access the beta through Steam and the Epic Games Store. To join, interested players must sign up via the official PUBG Productions Discord server to receive a code applicable for either platform. Notably, participants will obtain a code immediately upon signing up, eliminating the need to wait for an acceptance notification. However, it’s important to act swiftly, as codes are distributed on a “first-come, first-served”basis.
Upcoming Playtests and Gameplay Elements
If you miss out on this current playtest, there’s no need to worry. The PUBG Productions team has announced another playtesting opportunity scheduled to commence on June 2, 2025. This may be just one among several chances to experience the game before its anticipated release, potentially in August 2025.
Game Mechanics and Vision
“Prologue is tackling the terrain where we generate new terrains every playthrough by using our machine learning tech. That’ll help us prove out and mature the ML tech. Then, when we go to game two, which is hopefully on our own engine, we can have that ML tech matured, go bigger, and keep scaling up. That’s the intention for Prologue. It’s quite a simple game. It’s not my next opus, but it serves a purpose, which is that of a test bed for our ML tech.”
The development team emphasizes the goal of delivering a remarkable single-player experience that encourages emergent gameplay similar to titles like Don’t Starve. The developers aim to create a unique 8×8 world, ensuring that each playthrough offers a fresh experience full of intriguing elements to explore.
