Overview

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which debuted in 2023 on PS5, is now accessible for PC gamers.
  • Post-launch feedback indicates users are encountering graphical anomalies and game crashes.
  • A hotfix has been implemented to tackle some of the prominent concerns, with additional updates anticipated.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has successfully launched its first hotfix for PC just a day following its debut on the platform. This much-anticipated release allows PC gamers who missed out on Insomniac’s highly acclaimed superhero adventure on the PS5 to experience the vibrant, symbiote-infested streets of New York City. The PC version enhances the excitement of the PS5 edition, boasting upgraded graphics powered by Nvidia’s DLSS Ray Reconstruction and Intel XeSS upscaling, along with other exciting features.

Despite the enhancements, the response from the player community has been sobering. Approximately 45% of the reviews on Steam have turned out negative, largely due to reports of graphical issues and crashes, even on high-spec systems. While technical hiccups have often been a part of prior releases from Insomniac, players are looking forward to fixes in future updates to remedy these frustrations.

The inaugural PC patch, termed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Hotfix v1.31.0.0, has officially been launched, as detailed in a recent announcement on Steam. This update addresses key problems reported by players, including crashes linked to ray-tracing when enabled. Nixxes, the developer behind the PC port, has expressed commitment to continuing to evaluate player feedback and encourages users to report any additional concerns via their support portal.

The First of Many Updates for Spider-Man 2 on PC

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is part of a broader initiative by Sony to expand its portfolio of first-party PS5 exclusives to the PC community, and it certainly will not be the last title released this year. Coming soon, on April 3, players can look forward to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered making its PC debut, additionally expected to feature many of the technical enhancements discovered in the Spider-Man 2 port.

Recently, Sony has also decided to eliminate the previously required PSN sign-in for certain PC titles while providing exclusive bonuses for users logging into their accounts. As Insomniac refocuses its efforts towards upcoming projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 and Marvel’s Wolverine, the current installment is gaining further visibility within the PC gaming landscape.

Having garnered considerable acclaim upon its PS5 launch in 2023, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is poised for a bright future on PC. With ongoing updates and potential mods on the horizon, this new port has every chance of reaching new gameplay heights. The two predecessor games, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, are already available on PC, having been successfully ported over in 2022.
