Divinity: Original Sin II Poised for Next-Gen Console Release

While Larian Studios has gained widespread acclaim for its blockbuster game Baldur’s Gate 3, which launched in 2023, its previous title, Divinity: Original Sin II, continues to be a significant player in the RPG realm. Exciting news indicates that a native version of this beloved game is likely on the horizon for current-generation consoles.

Update Sparks Anticipation

Although Larian has not yet made an official statement, recent updates in the PEGI database suggest that the Definitive Edition of Divinity: Original Sin II is now rated for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. This update was recently noted on November 6, 2024, by Gematsu, further fuelling excitement among fans.

A Look Back at Original Sin II

Initially released for PC in 2017, Divinity: Original Sin II saw its Definitive Edition launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 a year later. This upgraded version offered players enhanced graphics, refined physics, and crucially, enriched storylines with detailed quest arcs, elevating the original epic RPG experience.

Native Versions: What to Expect

Despite being playable on the latest consoles via backward compatibility, previous Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions were not optimized for next-gen performance. For instance, the Xbox One X version runs at a native 4K 30FPS, while the PlayStation 4 Pro utilizes checkerboard rendering to achieve similar performance. A native version for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 could significantly enhance the visual and performance experience.

The Future of Larian Studios

As Larian Studios shifts its focus from the massively successful Baldur’s Gate 3 to other RPG titles, speculation is rising about a potential return to the Divinity series for new developments. With an impressive legacy in RPG storytelling, fans are eager to see what the studio has planned.

As we await further announcements regarding the native version of Divinity: Original Sin II, RPG enthusiasts can stay tuned to Larian’s official channels for updates on this beloved title.
