Former Square Enix Creative Chief Launches Wombo Games and Unveils New Roguelite

In an exciting development for the gaming community, Janos Flösser, co-founder of IO Interactive and previous chief creative officer at Square Enix, has established a new game studio in Copenhagen named Wombo Games. This announcement coincides with the unveiling of the studio’s inaugural project—a thrilling roguelite titled Raiders of Blackveil.

Raiders of Blackveil: A Sneak Peek

Slated for release on Steam via Early Access this upcoming summer, Raiders of Blackveil promises an “action-packed rogue-lite”experience. According to a press release, this game aims to “blend MOBA-inspired champions, RPG-style loot, and PVE extraction gameplay to craft a deeply strategic adventure filled with engaging challenges that can be tackled solo or cooperatively.

The Dystopian Setting

Players will find themselves immersed in a dystopian fantasy universe, facing off against an oppressive corporation known as Blackveil. Significantly, the players embody members of an animal rebellion fighting against the malevolent human-led regime. Engage in strategic raids and plunder missions alongside two other animal companions in dynamic three-player teams to dismantle the corporation’s nefarious control.

A Diverse Development Team

Flösser describes Wombo Games as a diverse collective of seasoned industry veterans known for their work on hit titles such as Hitman, Tomb Raider, and Deus Ex, combined with fresh, aspiring talent eager to leave their unique imprint on the gaming landscape. This blend of experience and innovation is expected to yield a compelling gaming experience.

“Wombo Games has been developing Raiders of Blackveil for nearly two years, so it’s surreal to finally be able to announce it and Wombo Games to the world, ” Flösser stated.“Raiders of Blackveil is our first title, making it very special to us. It serves as a blueprint for our studio, as every individual at Wombo has contributed directly to its development. We embrace a consensus-driven approach in our decision-making process and are excited to incorporate player feedback post-launch.”
