Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree introduces the Tarnished to a host of unlikely allies, offering a refreshing respite from the usual hostile encounters in this treacherous land. However, as is often the case in the Lands of Shadow, these alliances may prove precarious. Among these characters is Thiollier, a notable merchant whose offerings extend beyond mere transactions; he is also central to an intriguing questline that leads to unforeseen challenges. In this guide, we’ll delve into Thiollier’s quest within Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree.

Thiollier Quest Guide for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
- Initiate your quest by conversing with Thiollier at Pillar Path Cross, located southeast of the Castle Ensis front gate.
- Engage with Moore about Thiollier to receive Black Syrup, and then return this item to Thiollier.
- Post-shattering, revisit Thiollier and other NPCs. Thiollier will eventually mention plans to relocate south.
- Travel to Cerulean Coast and navigate to the southernmost point of the area, moving through the Stone Coffin Fissure.
- Summon Thiollier within the Putrescent Knight boss arena to defeat him.
- After the battle, converse with Thiollier in the room adjacent to the boss arena.
- Engage with St. Trina and consume her nectar up to six times, continuing until her dialogue is fully explored.
- Return to Thiollier to relay St. Trina’s messages until he triggers a hostile invasion.
- Complete Thiollier’s dialogue, allowing you to summon him as an ally in one of the late-game encounters.
Thiollier’s Initial Location
Your first encounter with Thiollier occurs at Pillar Path Cross in the Shadow of the Erdtree. Refer to the map below for his specific location.

After your initial meeting, proceed to Main Gate Cross and consult Moore, who will provide you with Black Syrup. This potion allows Thiollier to concoct a special consumable known as Thiollier’s Concoction, which, intriguingly, results in your character’s demise. While it may not seem advantageous, it serves a unique purpose.
By delivering this Concoction to the Dragon Priestess at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion prior to defeating Bayle the Dread, you can secure the Ancient Dragon Florissax Spirit Ashes. If you opt not to deliver the potion, you will receive the Priestess Heart along with her Flowerstone Gavel post-Bayle’s defeat.
If you succumb to curiosity and use Thiollier’s Concoction immediately, don’t worry; you can always repurchase it from him after resting, for 30, 000 Runes.
Following this, there’s little activity involving Thiollier until the shattering of Miquella’s Rune, which occurs after venturing east from Bonny Village, beyond Moorth Ruins.
After the shattering, Thiollier appears dejected and uncertain. Depending on your actions, he may eventually relocate to the Stone Coffin Fissure in Cerulean Coast. Here are the conditions for his move:
- If you locate St. Trina and inform Thiollier of her location, he will journey there.
- Resting at a Grace in the Stone Coffin Fissure will also lead Thiollier to St. Trina.
- Advancing through Shadow Keep and burning the sealing tree will precipitate his move to St. Trina.
Thiollier’s Second Location
In time, Thiollier makes his way to the southern shores near Cerulean Coast. If you haven’t explored this area yet, consider checking out how to acquire the south Map Fragment for easier navigation.
This marks Thiollier’s new location.| Image credit: VG247/FromSoftwareAt Cerulean Coast, head to its southernmost reaches to discover the entrance to The Fissure, which can be accessed by descending into the cavern. The entrance, sealed by Miquella, becomes accessible following the shattering or Thiollier’s relocation.
Once inside The Fissure, prepare for challenges as Lookout Stones armed with laser-beam spells and Gravebirds will impede your progress. It is advisable to eliminate the Gravebirds first, then focus your efforts on dodging attacks while effectively dispatching the Lookout Stones with a rapid weapon or shield to mitigate damage from their explosive projectiles.
After dealing with the Lookout Stones, continue ahead to encounter skeletons and a Spectral Misbegotten. Defeat the Misbegotten to acquire the Multilayered Ring of Light Incantation during your exploration.
Advancing further will bring you to The Fissure Depths Site of Grace amidst slumbering creatures. When you’re ready, leap from the statue head in the ruins.
You will land in a boss arena featuring the Putrescent Knight, where you will also find a summon sign for Thiollier. While summoning him is not mandatory, his poison abilities can significantly enhance your chances against the Putrescent Knight. After claiming victory over this foe, be sure to activate the nearby Grace and enter the adjacent room.
Concluding Thiollier’s Quest
In a twist, you will encounter both St. Trina and Thiollier in this room. Speak with Thiollier to exhaust his dialogue, then turn your attention to St. Trina. While her initial silence persists, she will allow you to consume her nectar—once again resulting in your demise.
Embrace the cycle of death and imbibe her nectar three more times. Subsequently, St. Trina will engage you in conversation while you perish. Consume the nectar a couple more times, and once she hints at the need to eliminate Miquella, her dialogue will start to dwindle.
After thoroughly experiencing St. Trina’s nectar, attempt to convey her messages to Thiollier. However, he may resist listening. After two attempts, he will invade, and upon his defeat, drop St. Trina’s Smile Talisman, which enhances attacks when the Sleep status effect is in play. Post-battle, Thiollier will remain subdued with no further dialogue.
To prevent missing the Talisman, it’s prudent to complete Thiollier’s questline before engaging with the sealing tree in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh. Be mindful, as either that event or the subsequent fight could lead to Thiollier’s disappearance.
