Influencer Plans Legal Action Against Genshin Impact Over Alleged Dance Move Copyright Infringement in Xilonen’s Animation

The popular action-adventure RPG by HoYoverse, Genshin Impact, is surrounded by controversy once again. This time, the developer is facing backlash for allegedly replicating certain dance moves from influencer @oumi_janta in the idle animation of the upcoming 5-star Geo character, Xilonen.
Oumi Janta, known for sharing her jam skating footage on TikTok, showcased dance moves in a recent video that bear a striking resemblance to Xilonen’s leaked dance animation. After some users brought this similarity to her attention, Oumi took to social media to announce her intention of possibly suing HoYoverse for copyright infringement.

XILONEN GENSHIN IMPACT IDLE ANIMATION (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVmyQdI3B7g)Although Oumi acknowledges in her video that dance moves are not protected by copyright laws, she raises the possibility that HoYoverse might have performed a body scan of her, which could present legitimate grounds for her case.
Currently, Xilonen is set to make her debut in Genshin Impact on the first-half banners of version 5.1, scheduled for October 9, 2024. Oumi’s legal team has advised her to hold off on taking any action until the character is officially released, considering the leaked animation might not be included in the game. She remarked:
“My team and I concluded that the animation isn’t online and that this video could merely be a leak or a teaser. If it’s not in the game, I can’t pursue legal steps.”
However, the influencer has encouraged her fans to inform her if Xilonen’s idle animation appears in the game following the 5.1 update. Should this occur, Oumi indicated she might consider legal action against HoYoverse in over 80 countries.
