Bandai Namco has confirmed that its action MMORPG, Blue Protocol, will officially shut down on January 18, 2025, at 10 PM JST. Despite efforts to sustain its player community, the game has faced challenges in maintaining a steady user base, leading the development team to finalize this closure decision back in August 2024.

Timeline of Blue Protocol’s Launch

Initially launched for PC on June 14, 2023, in Japan, Blue Protocol expanded its reach with releases for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on December 13, 2023. Although there were ambitions to introduce the game to European and North American audiences in collaboration with Amazon, these plans were ultimately scrapped as a direct result of the closure of the Japanese version.

Content Updates and Features

Throughout its operational period of approximately one year and seven months, Blue Protocol underwent numerous content updates. These included the introduction of two new playable classes—the Beat Performer and the Blitz Lancer—as well as the addition of story chapters 4, 5, and 6. In a final communication before the shutdown, Bandai Namco provided guidance on uninstalling both the PC version of Blue Protocol and the Bandai Namco Launcher.

Future Endeavors: Star Resonance

As a noteworthy update from the development community, Bokura recently unveiled Star Resonance, a new action MMORPG inspired by the Blue Protocol universe.

Final Shutdown Details

The end of service for Blue Protocol is set for January 18, 2025, at 10 PM JST, coinciding with the cessation of functions for the Bandai Namco Launcher.
