In a recent interview with IGN, Junya Ishizaki, the director of Elden Ring: Nightreign, clarified that the highly anticipated game will not support crossplay multiplayer. While this may come as disappointing news to some fans, he did reassure that cross-generation play would be available, allowing players from previous console generations compatibility.

Ishizaki explained that much like the original Elden Ring, this spin-off will allow for cross-generational multiplayer. Players using a PlayStation 4 can connect and play with those on PlayStation 5. Similarly, Xbox One players will be able to engage with their friends on Xbox Series X and S. However, players will not be able to interact across different platforms, as confirmed by Ishizaki during his discussion with IGN’s Wesley Yin-Poole.

Upcoming Testing Opportunities

As part of the pre-launch excitement, Bandai Namco has announced a closed Network test for Elden Ring: Nightreign. This test is scheduled for February 2025, providing an early glimpse into the game’s mechanics. Interested players can expect to register for this opportunity in January 2025, adding to the anticipation surrounding its release.

Release Information

The game is set to launch in 2025 on multiple platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Additionally, the original Elden Ring remains available for identical platforms, with its expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, currently accessible for players.
