Elden Ring Nightreign Guide: Strategies for Defeating Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw

If you’ve been immersed in Elden Ring Nightreign after the release of update 1.01.3, you may have encountered a notable change in the expedition menu. A new adversary, the Everdark Sovereign, has emerged as a variant of the already formidable Gaping Jaw.
This enhanced version of the notoriously swift and erratic Nightlord is significantly more aggressive, commencing directly from its second phase. Furthermore, it introduces a variety of new mechanics that players must navigate. Team coordination and vigilance are essential if you and your fellow adventurers hope to overcome this intensified Nightlord.
Though the challenge may seem daunting, proper strategies can ease the burden of this formidable foe.
Optimal Team Composition
Confronting Gaping Jaw, or Adel Baron of Night, is a test of skill in itself; however, the battle against the Everdark Sovereign escalates the challenge manifold, demanding strategic team composition for success.
I’ve found success deploying two effective team setups: the first consisting of Raider, Wylder, and Ironeye, and the second with Raider, Ironeye, and Executor.
Both configurations share common strengths: a resilient tank in Raider, a capable damage dealer in either Wylder or Executor, and a supportive ranged character represented by Ironeye. Prior to the fight, ensure your team is optimally configured and that you’ve chosen your top characters. To initiate the battle, select the purple option at the expedition list for Everdark Sovereign.
Distinguishing Features of Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw
Before embarking on the duel with the Everdark Sovereign variant, it’s crucial to recognize several key differences that will influence your approach:
- Enhanced Health: The Everdark Sovereign boasts significantly higher health.
- Immediate Phase Two Engagement: The fight starts in phase two, unleashing a barrage of Lightning attacks.
- New Attacks: Be prepared for additional moves and mechanics that add to its complexity.
- Increased Aggressiveness: This variant exhibits greater mobility and relentless aggression.
The positive aspect of confronting the Everdark Sovereign is that its vulnerabilities remain unchanged. Thus, securing poison weapons during your expedition proves advantageous. While the poison won’t manifest visibly as it does in phase one of the original Gaping Jaw, it still inflicts significant damage on this version of the boss.
Strategies for Defeating Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw
As with any standard Nightlord expedition, your journey entails surviving two nights prior to facing the Everdark Sovereign. Post completion, players will have access to this encounter on the third day. Rapid leveling is crucial, with the recommendation to reach at least level 13 before engaging the boss.
When battling Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw, ensure your team is equipped with poison weaponry typically located in ruins marked with a small poison symbol. These weapons will help deplete the boss’s health effectively.
Upon the commencement of the fight, you will observe that the boss enters in its standard second phase, enveloped in lightning. Pay attention to several critical attacks you should be prepared to counter:
Attack Description Lightning Burst Adel charges up a large lightning area of effect (AOE).A semi-transparent blue dome will appear, leading to electrified air and subsequent lightning strikes. Bleeding Bite The boss drags its massive jaw across the ground; getting caught launches players into the air for continuous damage and health replenishment for the boss unless teammates intervene. Lightning Dash and Crash Adel speeds across the battlefield, inflicting damage on individuals in its path, followed by a crash that creates lightning-infused ground zones. Tornado Summoning a vast tornado, the boss jeopardizes anyone caught within as they sustain significant damage. If downed, crawling through the winds allows for potential revival by teammates.Once the boss’s health is halved, Everdark Sovereign transitions into its second phase, increasing its use of the tornado AOE. During this phase, it will dash throughout the arena, culminating in a crash that creates a tornado around it. Escape swiftly, as being within the initial area of the tornado results in damage from lightning.
Once the tornado forms, Spiritstream Jumps will appear scattered across the battlefield. Utilize one of these points to launch yourself over the tornado’s edge and into its center.
Inside the eye of the tornado, you can engage the boss without the persistent AOE. After a few minutes, the tornado will dissipate, restoring access to the arena.Attempting to traverse through the tornado will almost certainly result in your demise.
Rewards for Defeating Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw
Success in defeating the Everdark Sovereign Gaping Jaw yields valuable rewards. Players receive a set of randomized Relics which can enhance characters for future gameplay.
Additionally, you will earn 25 Sovereign Sigils, redeemable at the Collector Signboard for new chalices in Relic Rites, character skins, and more Relics. These sigils also facilitate changes to the Shifting Earth modifier.
Notably, the initial victory grants you 25 sigils, while subsequent defeats of the boss will only reward 5 sigils each time thereafter.
