Comprehensive Guide to Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza – Bang! Bang! Batter

As Captain Majima embarks on a journey with his crew, the Goro Pirates, navigating through the perilous seas of Hawaii, there comes a time when they need to relax and indulge in some well-deserved recreation. After a demanding day filled with battles against pirates and outlaws, engaging in leisure activities becomes essential.
Continuing the tradition of immersive gameplay in the Yakuza franchise, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza introduces an exciting variety of minigames that players can explore to earn points for in-game rewards. Among these is the entertaining “Bang! Bang! Batter, ”a baseball-themed minigame that adds a unique pirate twist.
This minigame draws inspiration from similar baseball-themed challenges found throughout the Yakuza series. Players will remember a comparable game mode featured in Yakuza: Like A Dragon. In “Bang! Bang! Batter, ”players aim to hit as few cannonballs as possible to eliminate barrels.
Location & Overview
Close
The Bang Bang Batter Center is situated on the west side of Madlantis, a location introduced in Chapter 2, conveniently close to the Dunghill bar.
This minigame offers two primary modes: Big Bang Bang and Endless Bang Bang. The objective in both is to maximize your score while minimizing the number of cannonballs you use.
- Big Bang Bang: Navigate through a series of explosive barrels to unlock a treasure chest hidden behind a padlock. Here, five cannonballs are at your disposal, and the entry fee is $100.
- Endless Bang Bang: This mode provides up to ten cannonballs, with barrels continuously respawning. Participation costs $500.
Understanding Velocities
In this minigame, you will notice an NPC igniting a fuse, causing a cannon to fire cannonballs at varying angles. The angle affects the speed of the cannonball—the higher the cannon is aimed, the slower the ball will travel, creating a wide range from very slow (requiring three seconds to hit) to very fast (calling for immediate action).
To aid your timing, a blue ring appears in the center of your screen, shrinking as the cannonball approaches. Pay attention to the audio cue—a whooshing sound signals when to strike.
Utilizing the Special Swing
The game includes a single-use Special Swing ability that freezes time as the cannonball nears, making it nearly impossible to miss. This powerful move not only strikes all barrels but also breaks the padlock; however, it can only be utilized once per match.

This initial stage eases players into the mechanics of the game. The key is to aim for the red barrels, which can trigger explosive chain reactions for greater scores.
When targeting red barrels, remember they explode in a 3×3 area. Here are some strategic tips for each stage:
- Target the rows of red barrels directly.
- Hit the center of the right-side barrels and the outer edge of the left barrels.
- Strike the central barrels to optimize damage.

During this stage, players will encounter missile boxes that can launch cannonballs in various directions. Aim to ensure that missile boxes point towards clusters of barrels to create effective detonations.
Follow these guidelines for each stage:
- Focus your strikes on the barrels rather than missile boxes.
- Similar tactics as the first tip.
- Hitting any explosive barrel can set off a chain reaction.
- Concentrate on hitting missile boxes positioned in the corners of the layout.

This level emphasizes precise shot placement to maximize barrel chain reactions. Red barrels explode in a square formation, which can also affect diagonal barrels. Typically, only two cannonballs are needed for each stage—one for the barrels and one for the padlock.
For optimal results, follow this shooting pattern:
- Hit any explosive barrel.
- Aim for the uppermost missile box.
- Strike the missile box located in the top left corner.
- Focus on another explosive barrel.
- Target the space between two missile boxes to strike both in one go.

As the final challenge, Expert Mode requires mastery of all previously learned skills. Awareness of when and where to strike is crucial to success. Stay focused and observe the origins of the cannonballs.
Utilize the following tips to navigate through this level:
- Begin by hitting the second line of red barrels from the top to connect with others, maximizing your explosion potential.
- Strike any barrel in the top left to trigger a chain reaction in the bottom left, and then do the same for the bottom right.
- Note: This stage is particularly challenging, and using the Special Swing here can be advantageous if prioritizing the padlock.
- Hit the left side first, then the right, which should generate a critical mass for detonation in the center.
- Finish by targeting the missile box at the upper left corner.
- Lastly, strike the missile box located at the bottom right.

In Endless Mode, players encounter additional power-up boxes—one for replenishing your Special Swing and another for restoring a cannonball. Use your previous knowledge to handle this mode effectively.
A strategic approach involves focusing on destroying the lower sections of the walls to uncover hidden barrels. Remember, the more chain reactions you trigger, the more barrels will spawn in return.
If opportunities for chaining are limited, activate your Special Swing wisely to reset the board for a fresh start.
