• Season 16 will introduce Damage hero Freja.

Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced two exciting new heroes slated to join Overwatch 2 in 2025: Freja, a Damage hero, and Aqua, a Support hero. The game’s release strategy typically involves introducing three new heroes each year, focusing on Damage heroes in the early part and Support heroes later, culminating with a Tank hero to wrap up the year.

This year, Overwatch 2 adhered to this structure by unveiling Damage character Venture in Season 10, Support hero Juno in Season 12, and Tank hero Hazard in Season 14. While Season 15 will not introduce a brand-new hero, players can look forward to a limited-time trial featuring Freja, who will officially debut in Season 16.

Meet Freja: Overwatch 2’s Damage Hero

Freja, also known as the “wind dasher, ”is originally from Denmark and transitioned from a Search & Rescue Operative within Overwatch to a bounty hunter. Her arsenal includes a rapid-fire crossbow equipped with explosive bolts activated when aiming down sights. Moreover, Freja can utilize her cape for enhanced air control and gain a jump boost, alongside a quick dash mechanic to reload her explosive bolts automatically.

One of her standout abilities is her bola, which can ensnare enemies caught in its path. With her high skill ceiling, Freja is poised to provide a challenging but rewarding experience for seasoned Damage players. The character will be accessible for trial gameplay during Season 15 before her full launch in Season 16.

Introducing Aqua: The Water Wielder

In addition to Freja, Blizzard has also teased information about Aqua, the forthcoming Support hero. Scheduled for release in Season 18, fans are eager to learn more about Aqua’s capabilities and role within the game.

While Overwatch 2 may not match the rapid hero additions seen in franchises like Marvel Rivals, the anticipation surrounding Freja and Aqua is palpable. Freja’s upcoming trial in Season 15 promises to generate interest and excitement, making her a highly anticipated addition to the Overwatch 2 roster.
