Over 5 Million Units of Nintendo Switch 2 Sold in June

Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Update: Controversy Surrounds Initial Figures
Recent reports regarding the sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 suggest that the console may have surpassed 5 million units sold in June. However, these figures have been clarified by Nintendo, leading to some confusion among fans and analysts alike.
Clarification on Sales Data
According to MST Senior Analyst David Gibson’s statement on X, the sales data that briefly surfaced yesterday was deemed inaccurate. Gibson revealed that Nintendo confirmed the figures were merely test data intended for a website update, not reflective of actual sales numbers or projections for the Nintendo Switch 2. He anticipates that Nintendo will disclose a more accurate figure of approximately 5.4 million units sold when they release their sales report next month. This sentiment is echoed by another respected analyst, Daniel Ahmad from Niko Partners, who argues that even the earlier reported 5 million units is likely an underestimate.
I asked @Nintendo about the “leak”of Switch 2 data and they replied – “It appears that test data prepared for a web site update was unintentionally made publicly accessible…”1/2

Strong Early Sales Performance
Regardless of the initial sales data inaccuracies, early indicators suggest the Nintendo Switch 2 is performing exceptionally well on a global scale. The system reportedly sold over 3.5 million units within just the first four days of its launch. However, demand is high, and the production output has struggled to keep pace. During a recent investor meeting, Nintendo’s President, Shuntaro Furukawa, publicly apologized for the supply shortage and assured stakeholders that the company is diligently working to enhance its production capabilities to better meet consumer demand.
