Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers Exclude Switch 2 Titles

Nintendo has recently made an announcement on both its Japanese and US websites regarding its Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers program. These vouchers, designed for Nintendo Switch Online members, allow users to purchase two digital game titles at a discounted rate; however, they will not apply to any games released exclusively for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2.

Details on Voucher Restrictions

According to the updated product information featured on the English support site, the description clearly states: “Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers cannot be redeemed for games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 system.” Similarly, the Japanese version notes that new titles will not qualify for voucher redemption. Typically, consumers invest approximately 9, 980 yen or $99.98 for a pair of vouchers, which can be used to acquire digital titles through the eShop.

Despite the restrictions regarding the upcoming console, several notable games currently qualify for the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. Here’s a selection of these titles:

Upcoming Changes at Nintendo

This voucher modification is not the only recent update from Nintendo. The company has announced the discontinuation of the My Nintendo Gold Points program, which allowed customers to accumulate points through purchases of digital or physical games. Each Gold Point was equivalent to one cent and could be redeemed for discounts or used to acquire content. After March 25, 2025, users will no longer be able to earn points, and any points accrued will remain valid for one additional year.

Nintendo Switch 2 Direct and Anticipated Launch

Mark your calendars: The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is set to take place on April 2, 2025, with the expected launch of the new console appearing later in the same year. However, specific release dates for both the hardware and its associated titles are yet to be confirmed.
