GosuCup Season One finals ended just a few hours ago, and what a match it was. In case you didn’t have a chance to catch the live feed here’s a quick recap of what was going on:

Game one - ALF (Z) vs Yayba (P), Rush hour 3.1.

Pretty standard opening, - Zerg on 7’ opens with 9 – over - pool – 12 - hatch only to find a warping pylon on his natural, forcing him to put the Hatchery in the uncomfortable spot above. Meanwhile Protoss opened with safe fast expo and two canons. Protoss goes Corsairs, Zealots Templars, Archons with a few DTs while Zerg goes Hydras with Speed before the Spire, getting about three out before the first corsair hits the air. Zerg hits a small unsuccessful 7 hydra attack on Protoss natural from behind, only to destroy a few canons and run away counting losses. A few moments later Protoss mounts a successful counter with a number of Zealots, an Archon and a few Templars, eventually manages to Storm out some of the Zerg’s defense, kill the sunk, get inside the main and wipe out a few drones before getting cleared out. Zerg goes for two expos on 9’ while Protoss takes the two on 11’ish, Zerg launches an unsuccessful two lurker drop followed by a somewhat shallow and also unsuccessful counter by Yayba. About 15 minutes in Protoss starts to move his army towards Zerg expos. A Few Zealots, 8 Goons, 5 Templars and a couple' observers close the deal by wiping clean Zerg’s two expos, at the same time Zerg counters with a drop of 8 Hydras and 2 Lurkers that went nowhere, leading to a logical GG, 1-0.

Game two - ALF (Z) vs Yayba (P), Othello 1.1.

Once again, Zerg, 10’, on the same strategy, gets a pylon on his natural, forcing to put a hatchery elsewhere, meanwhile Protoss, 7’, blocks the ramp with 3 zealots and opts for fast Corsairs. Zerg unsuccessfully tries to break into Yayba’s main and goes Speed Hydra first. About 8 minutes 40 seconds in both players have only naturals established; Zerg finally gets Overlord speed done, at this point its Alf’s 35 food vs. Yayba’s 66. Protoss somewhat pulls out with several Zealots and Goons, gets flanked by a pack of Hydras but manages to scare them off, following that with a failed attack, leaving him with two zealots, one templar and one good for the moment. A few moments later Zerg is already dancing around Yayba’s main with a group of hydras, tries to break in and…fails. Three minutes go by, Protoss movies out with a considerable force combining Goons, Zealots and Templars, meets Hydras in mid-map, storming and killing the living hell out of them. Hydras pull back, Protoss army carries on and Zerg simply gets run over, nothing left to do but to waive a Flag, 2-0.

Game three - ALF (Z) vs Yayba (P), Athena 2.0.

Zerg, 6’ does that same build again, and guess what stands in the way of his expo? You guessed it, it’s a pylon. Meanwhile Protoss just like in the series opener starts with a two canon natural. This time Zerg spared the waiting and went straight to third exp on 7’, an Evolution chamber and defense upgrade. About 7 minutes in, Zerg has both Lurker tech and defense upgrades almost done. Protoss does some scouting with corsairs and sends a small group of three Zealots and on Goon to take out the expansion on 7’, - pulls back after running into a simple but efficient sunken and hydra defense. Just like in the previous two games, Protoss, reaching 130 food count sends a Zealot-Goon-Templar-Archon army out and takes out Zerg’s army and natural, 3-0.

Game four - ALF (Z) vs Yayba (P), Sin Chupung Ryeong 2.1.

Alf finally manages to place a natural at a perfect spot from the first try, while Protoss, yet again, follows the oldie – fast Nexus, this time before the canons. About 7 minutes in Zerg manages to break into Protoss’s natural, destroying a number of Zealots, a few canons and a Gateway, but doesn’t have enough to cope with Protoss reinforcements and eventually settles for a contain. No distinctive action for about three minutes, what happens later you already know, don’t you? Well, if not let’s recap one more time. Reaching 130 food count Protoss moves out with a solid army of Zealots, Goons, Archons and Templars and…wait for it…runs Zerg over in the middle, breaks through his natural and enters the main, 4-0, the End.

Analyzing the series, all four games have been pretty much identical, - dancing with upgraded hydra by Zerg resulting in 130 food timing push walkover by our Protoss Yayba who truly demonstrated fantastic performance tonight. Rolling out the day - Congratulations to the first ever GosuCup winner – Yayba, and cheers to ALF who placed 2nd In this exciting finale, both guys are getting some very nice hardware from Razer, who we are very thankful to for sponsoring the event.
