Thirty two players went head to head in an all out battle for $100 and the bragging rights of course!
After nearly a month of fighting MYM.Strelok a.k.a. The Warship, was able to come out on top of some of the worlds best players. He sailed through the winners bracket with relative ease, and now had only to wait to meet his opponent for the title. In the losers bracket many of the gosus fought it out for a chance at the prize money and fame.
The Losers Bracket
Here we have some of the best players in a oxy moronic bracket, being called the losers makes them by no means a bad player. IefNaij, Cloud, Arew, Castro and Xiaozi were just some of the awesome players who went head to head for the top spot among the losers. The Canadian Protoss IefNaij, who has preformed rather well as of late, was unable to get out of this bracket having been cut down at the hands of ToT)Xiaozi(.
Excello.Oldy drew his line in the sand and prepared for any challengers. He made it all the way to face Xiaozi, who was dominating in the losers bracket, it was a close match but Oldy came out on top by just a hair. He then went on to face CaStro in the last matches for the losers bracket, the winner would go on to face The Warship in the finals. After a very intense couple of games Castro fell at the hands of the Canadian 2-0, Oldy advanced.
The Finals
Finally a enemy on the horizon for Strelok. The Warship came in with a one game lead and some confidence. Oldy stepped up to the plate like a seasoned pitcher, ready for anything that might come his way. They faced off in some rather intense games. Oldy won the first one with some really impressive game play. The second went to the Ukrainian monster very quickly since Oldy had quite a bit of trouble expanding.
The third game played on Blitz X was a very good game. Strelok pushed out early and was able to hold Oldy back for just a moment. The Protoss opted to go for a quick carrier build and it worked, he sank the warship for his second win of the match. It was now 2-2 an dead even race as the last game began, the tension was thick in the air. Strelok went with a fast armory build but reverted to vult tank after he saw that Oldy would not be pushing carriers as quick this time. The arbiters came out to do they're work this game, but it was not enough Strelok wins it 3-2 GG!
Congratulations
Congratulations to the Warship and Oldy, neither of which will be walking away empty handed from this match. Since the trouble between battle.net and WGT there has been some concern towards the reward for even bothering with the ladder systen. This tournament was WGTs way of saying that they are sorry.
