Mondragon defeated Testie in the first round of Group H. Testie chose to go Terran, despite being played on Azalea. Mutalisks and Zerglings were the key factors in the game. Battle report follows.
Nick "Testie" Perentesis and Christoph "Mondragon" Semke are very good friends, and are absolutely the top contenders for best non-Korean player. Luckily for the fans they got to see the match right away in the first round of Group H of World Cyber Games. The players started out with the usual, Testie doing a supply and barracks at his choke, and kept chatting with Mondragon as the game continued.
The first action we're given is Mondragon sending a couple of Zerglings to Testie's main base, but are chased out by Marines. The Zerglings linger about the depots at the choke before the marines catch up. All the while Testie starts to get his defense up he advances out with SCV's and Marines. However Mondragon is not short in putting the pressure on - as massing lines en route and destroys the SCV's and Marines on duty.
Testie builds a Command Center at his natural expansion, while Mondragon focuses on his Zergling force and sends them to Testie's choke to be met by a few firebats but the bats retreat to the barracks where Mondi's lings met reinforcements and are destroyed. Meanwhile, Mondragon has mutalisks on the way, and goes off to harass the finished Command Center of Testie making it hard for the Canadian to use it but sends marines and tries to fend off the mutalisks. But as more and more Zerglings and Mondragon continuing to harass with mutalisks, Testie can't do much more and frustatedly types GG.
