It took a while, but the StarLeague tournament we hosted here at GosuGamers.net is finally over. The final was postponed for a while, but it finished a few hours ago.

The reason for the name of the tournament is that we used the three new maps from this seasons MSL and OSL as the map pool. That is, Desert Fox, Reverse Temple and Hitch Hiker. If you want to read more about the tournament, or download the maps, follow the links at the bottom.

There were some upsets during the tour. In the end Mireille and MgZ)Yayba reached the final to meet in a best of five series to decide who would win.

Mireille 1 - 3 MgZ)Yayba
Mireille < MgZ)Yayba Reverse Temple
Mireille < MgZ)Yayba Hitchhiker
Mireille > MgZ)Yayba Desert Fox
Mireille < MgZ)Yayba Reverse Temple

There is a link to a replay pack at the bottom. GosuGamers.net also did some short interviews with the two finalists.

Jarek "MgZ)Yayba" Pociecha is 18 years old and from Poland. I had not heard of him before this as I am sure many of you hadn't either. He said he is used to it and that he mostly played with his friends in MgZ and with Koreans on west. His most difficult opponent according to himself was uT)Fly, aka sMacker. Yayba said he played very hardcore. Neither of the finalists had faced each other before, but both seemed to have a laid back oppinion about the tournament. It was for fun and it seems both of them enjoyed the idea with some new maps in a tournament.

“I think its totally meaningsless to play old maps, but as a european you have to since they still use them in tourneys for some reason.
- MireilleRegarding map imbalances Yayba said that it is mostly about the player and how they utilize the map, but that desert fox had a bit of a problem in PvT. Mireille on his part said flat out that the maps are not balanced, although it would of course be possible to play each map very well with all the races. His thoughts were that Hitchhiker is a good map for terrans regardless of who they play against. Reverse Temple is good for Terran versus Zerg and he also thinks Desert Fox is a Terran map. If he's right it's a good day for terran I guess. Yayba rounded off the interview with thanking all the players for the games and hoping that the next tournament would be soon.

These three maps are played in the Korean leagues and Desert Fox does seem to lean toward terran according to their stats on it. However it's too early to tell with any certainty. This tournament was mostly about introducing the maps and hopefully provide some fun for the players and some good replays on new maps for you guys. Enjoy.

Congratulations to MgZ)Yayba for winning the tournament.
