Entering the International Starcraft League is a very long and advanced process. To get the wanted 16 players for the league, four different stages is put up for them to pass through. This is necessary to get the best players, and to be as fair as possible. To cut out 80 players from the Top 96 in PGTour Season 1 will take a month, and the question is - is it worth it?
GosuGamers asked PGTour Head Administrator Pat regarding this qualification system, and he said that people wanted it to be seen. "Because there were no such league system out of korea and many people asked for it." He also says that the purpose of this is that it will give the best of the best, as well as a lot of competition and fun.
The Gate is not really one big tournament of 96 - it is three tournaments with 32 players in each - to avoid stacking. The seeding will also be a factor -- the #1 ranked will face the #96 rank and so on. In order to play in this, you need to be Top 96 (97-150 may also register, they will be replacements). Register for the tournament » here, registration closes 12:00 tomorrow.
The Top 8 of each of those three tournaments included in The Gate will move on to the next stage - Bloody Mary which is a group play with 6 groups á four players, randomly made. The Top 2 of each group (12) will qualify for the next stage - Portal Mess. However, the #1 player of each group will play eachother and the final winner of Bloody Mary will be directly qualified for ISL.
Top 3 from previous ISL
Winner of Bloody Mary
Top 2 of each group in Portal MessThe remaining 11 players from Bloody Mary, together with the 13 other players from the previous International Starcraft League (except the Top 3) are seeded into Portal Mess which will work almost the same format as in Bloody Mary. 6 groups of 4, where the Top 2 of each group (12) advances to the league.
